Just in case you missed it, the 282 rebrand and new website went live last week 🤗
I'm so happy to finally bring this to fruition and I'm so thankful to everyone who made it possible 🙏
Here's a link to the new site if you'd like to have a little look around - www.282video.co.uk
It's a sad day but it looks like I'm no longer needed in my business...
As some of you may have seen I was away this weekend celebrating a friends wedding but whilst I was busy tearing up the dance floor, the 282 team were busy tearing up the show floor at The NEC, Birmingham! 🕺🏻
Congrats and thanks to the 282 team who shot and edited this high energy, day one highlights video, capturing the people, products and buzz of Autumn Fair for Hyve Group.
What an absolute pleasure it was to witness one of my best friends Chris Moss marry his university sweetheart Phoenix Zhao this weekend!
I can't quite believe that this rag tag bunch of roughiens are still together ten years after graduating but I couldn't be more thankful for these guys and the friendship we've forged ❤️
Huge congrats to Chris and Phoenix for tying the knot, here's to many years of love and happiness together 🥂
Earlier this year we had the pleasure of travelling to Rotterdam to help Hyve Group capture Breakbulk (the worlds largest shipping and cargo show!) 🚢
One of my team members vlogged the event and I just thought it was a really cool insight into the work (and play) that goes into this kind of production.
Massive shout out to Henry Bettany for pulling this together alongside all of his hard work and as always a massive thanks to Jennie Kwan for getting us onboard (pun intended).
"By failing to prepare you are preparing to fail."
I really won't blame you if you've read that first line, thought to yourself 'oh bore off Kieran' and scrolled onto the next post.
However I truly stand by it, now more so than ever.
The projects we are working on are getting bigger, the crews are bigger, the logistics are more complicated and the expectations to deliver meet the scale.
As a result I'm spending more of my time planning than ever before.
Trying to think about all elements of production from all angles 'What happens if the hire company send the wrong set of lenses?', 'How can we make the schedule as efficient as possible to ensure we avoid going into overtime?', 'Will Dave be able to fit his van in the hotel carpark?'.
Years of experience in the industry have taught me that film making is 50% problem solving and if you can try and solve the problems before they arise, you can save a lot of time, effort and money!
Here's a beautiful example of planning from Andi Thompson who DOP'd a recent TVC for me. We conducted the recce so Andi had a great idea of the spaces we'd be shooting in but then he took his recce photos away and drew up lighting plans for each of the scenes that we'd be shooting. Before coming on set he briefed the gaffer so come shoot day it was as simple as putting the lights up where he had planned and then dialling them in. If we'd try to do that on set the shoot would have taken double the time!
Thanks Benjamin Franklin for the overused and maybe slightly tired phrase but I'm sticking with it for now!
Cooking up some delicious content with Catch A Fire Agency last week 😋
Catch A Fire is a new agency partnership for 282 and we throughly enjoyed helping them bring their creative vision to life by providing the right crew and kit for the job.
We work with a number of agencies in this capacity, sometimes we jump in at kick-off to devise a creative solution other times we are on hand to simply help execute a vision.
Got a project on the boil but need a little extra video production spice? Feel free to reach out 🤘🏻
Happy to share that I've just passed my A2 C of C drone exam 😊
This means I can now fly a drone commercially!
It's an idea that I've toyed with on a number of occasions throughout my film making career and on my recent work trip to Bali I had the opportunity to test fly a drone which was the catalyst I needed to get my license completed.
I don't plan on this overshadowing my work at 282, it's just a case of adding more strings to my bow. For big commercial work I'll always work with the pros but I'm excited to get out there and see what opportunities present themselves. 🛫
One of the absolute perks of my work is the opportunity to travel the world, experience new cultures and meet incredible people!
Here's some BTS from a recent trip to Bali which I won't be forgetting anytime soon ❤️
Not only do ifour creative agency produce insane client work, they also invest in creating their own content to build their brand and further boost their credibility...now that's how winning is done 💪
It was an absolute pleasure to help ifour produce their new podcast this week and for anyone that loves marketing, creativity and agency life, this will be right up your street!
Props to Damon McCollin-Moore who hosted the very first show like a seasoned pro 🙌
Coming back down to earth after a whirlwind week in Bali working on a documentary for a Christian charity who distribute the bible in audio format to some of the most remote locations on earth.
I was a little bit apprehensive about this project because traditionally my work is more corporate but honestly the whole trip was so rewarding. I got to work with an incredibly crew, visit some amazing locations and meet some beautiful human beings.
These little guys are all orphans and live with very little but because we were the guests, they cooked for us and we had the privilege of eating first! I was blown away by their generosity and completely honoured to hang out with with them and share some laughs.
I managed to shoot a load of BTS from the trip so I'll cut together a reel and share it soon. In the meantime we're well into planning our next big project with Cheeky Communications more on this to come soon 🤫
One for all my aviation connections out there...delighted to announce that I completed my Qualifying Cross Country over the weekend! One step closer to completing my PPL and a throughly awesome experience.
Redhill - Lee On Solent - Lydd - Redhill.
I had originally planned to fly down the south coast for my second leg at 4000ft however when I landed at Lee On Solent the cloud base was at 2500ft so I made a call to fly an inland route at 2000ft that I had planned prior to departure, definitely not as scenic but less work intensive as it meant that I avoided an overhead transit of Shoreham's ATZ.
I've still got some solo hours to rack up before Skills Test but it certainly feels like I'm on 'final' now!
