Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer at Georgia Power

Georgia, we DID it!    Thirty-two years ago, I was an engineer here at Plant Vogtle, designing valves, piping systems and running turbine vibration testing. It has been a moving and inspirational experience this week to be back on this site, commemorating Units 3 & 4 — and celebrating Plant Vogtle as the largest generator of clean energy in the U.S. Georgia did what no one else has been able to do in decades – bring two newly constructed nuclear reactors into operation to serve customers.    It was AWESOME to come together with so many leaders from across the state – including our co-owners, Governor Brian Kemp, members of the Georgia Public Service Commission and other elected officials – to celebrate this historic achievement. On behalf of the thousands of employees and craft labor who have worked on this project, we are so thankful to our partners who were steadfast, loyal and strong — partners who worked together with us through challenges and successes along the way. It wasn’t easy, but we stayed focused on safety and quality to get the job done to benefit our customers and the state of Georgia for generations to come.

I’m thrilled that my team had a small part in this historic project. I told our folks that the world would be watching to see how Southern would handle this and we could not fail. I was proud that the low and high voltage switch yards were ready early and waiting for units 3 and 4 to be completed. Congratulations to everyone involved.

In addition to Georgia Power, the City of Cartersville and 40 other Georgia cities that are members of MEAG are part owners of these two new nuclear power plants. Congratulations to all who took part in this journey to provide clean energy for citizens of Cartersville and around the State for decades to come!
