At the outsets I plan to review this important Testimony (& selected References - as time permits!) related to the FIRST TOTALLY NEW Nuclear Power Plants in the U.S. after a GAP of nearly 3 Decades! Above reminds me of my 10+ years of Expert Testimony/Witness/Rigorous Cross Examinations/Resonable Personal success based on input received from my Clients/Corporate Law Firms & to some extent the ALJ's Court Decisions across various Jurisdictions! ( As I seems to recall, the last time I was on the hot Witness stand was in 1991/92!) May I ask a QUESTION! I would like to review - Quoting "....between 2007 and 2010-- 30 nuclear projects were in design or construction. By 2017 every one of them was halted except for Plant Vogtle." ( & much more) Btw: To Review All will be virtually impossible nor necessary! [2] Unless, I missed it Does any of you Experts/More Knowledgeable and/or PSC-Georgia have come across:! - A Comprehensive COMPARISON of "Vogtle 3 & 4 Vs. Vogtle 1 & 2"? [3] In my humble Opinion, here is "Why" above seems important: - Both Vogtle Plants (Past & Present) are Westinghouse PWRs with about the same Size/Capacity. - Vogtle 1 & 2 is Standard PWR & Vogtle 3 & 4 is Advanced Generation III+ Reactor (Successfully Operating AP1000 in the U.S. and China. Also, recent high interest to build outside the U.S.) - With my continued keen interest, the ONLY NEW Nuclear Plant build in the U.S after a GAP of 3 Decades, and widely discussed/debated in various Forums/Linkedin POSTs, I decided to take an additional Selected look at the Vogtle Data in my Largest Privately held Power Plants DATABASE(1970-2023). What is Ring Rolling? Repowering Coal Sites with Nuclear The ADVANCE Act also enables the cleanup and reuse of brownfield sites, including retired or retiring coal plants. Our analysis shows that hundreds of these coal sites could be converted into nuclear power plants to help keep high-paying jobs and economic opportunities in these energy communities. The NRC will examine and streamline licensing processes for nuclear facilities at these sites and will also take into account the associated infrastructure as part of the process. The NRC is currently reviewing TerraPower’s construction permit application to build its Natrium reactor near a retiring coal plant in Kemmerer, Wyoming. If approved, it would be the first one issued by the NRC for a commercial non-light water reactor and will pave the way for other designs looking to do the same at similar brownfield sites.

Good morning, Yesterday a coalition of six Georgia organizations released a report titled, Plant Vogtle: The true cost of nuclear power in the United States. The purpose of the report is three-fold: 1) to lift up Georgians’ voices about why this plant is a disaster for ratepayers and to discuss bill impacts that are not discussed anywhere else, ever. 2) to tell the truth about why Vogtle was so expensive, and no, it wasn’t due to heavy NRC or state regulations; 3) to explain the regulatory failures that enabled this enormous wealth transfer from the people of Georgia to the executive suite at Southern Company. One thing that makes me worried: there are many SMR concepts out there designed by people with limited experience in practical nuclear safety issues. Many of these reactors are designed to operate without soluble boron, but I'm afraid people don't fully grasp the destructive potential of "black" control rods, particularly in a small-height core. Us reactor physicists need to do a better job in educating people about the consequences of a spurious withdrawal of multiple high-reactivity CRs and the absolute necessity to prevent it. It's an event with a potentially catastrophic outcome and one that no protection system can deal with. Respect the rods.
