It is a very circular issue of escalation where a waiver is granted to create more Co2 deficit in order to keep the power on because of the excessive heat caused by climate change and CO2. It is an example of the obvious fact that we cannot go back even if we wanted to without a pain level that no one wants.... Food for thought. To achieve the climate target, we need to have completely phased out gas in two decades. The sooner we succeed in reducing the use of gas, the more we will strengthen security of supply, especially in times of geopolitical tensions. We make ourselves less dependent and therefore less vulnerable - including to gas price spikes. This means switching the heating system away from gas and towards heat pumps or municipal heat supply. The phase-out of gas must begin today, otherwise it will be very expensive for remaining gas customers. The gas grids must be gradually shut down. The longer we wait, the more expensive it will be. In Germany, there is still no plan to decommission existing natural gas networks. In federal states such as Baden Württemberg, which have had municipal heating plans for some time, this has not happened at all. Clear framework conditions and incentives for municipalities are completely lacking, on the contrary. The decentralized natural gas network must be depreciated and gradually decommissioned in order to avoid stranded assets and exploding costs for the remaining customers. While fundamentals seem stable under normal conditions, extreme cold snaps could threaten infrastructure, especially in the eastern US and ERCOT. The 2023-2024 assessment notes increased natural gas demand despite adequate storage, lower prices, and robust production. Electric resources are expected to increase, but retirements and renewables may impact availability. What to do with gas grids?

The U.S. has lowered its emissions more than any other region over the past 15 years, including the European Union, thanks to natural gas. It’s proven that replacing coal and oil with natural gas leads to lower emissions, as well as lower energy costs! However, we need to build more pipelines to expand access to clean, affordable, and reliable natural gas. With limited #NaturalGas pipeline capacity, New England has experienced the highest electricity costs in the U.S. due to a shortage of natural gas during periods of peak demand. During multiple cold snaps last year, the region had to rely on burning oil to make electricity since there was not enough natural gas to supply every home and business. Why would USA which is very rich in gas and has access to alternative sources of base load power talk about power crisis? Why can they not do the gas plus renewables scenario to power their nation? Is this a man made crisis that are brewing all over the world? Why would a nation stop using fossil fuels? Would the world not be creating an energy security issue while trying to stop the potential affects of climate change?
