Most managers probably don’t think they have much in common with Olympic-level coaches. But the truth is, at the core of both jobs is a responsibility for the training and professional success of another person (or group of people). While the details of Olympic coaches’ and managers’ jobs differ significantly, there’s also a lot of shared wisdom about effective leadership. For example, consider University of Texas swimming coaches Eddie Reese and Bob Bowman. Reese and Bowman coach multiple swimmers who have qualified for the 2024 Olympic games in Paris. In an article for SwimSwam, reporter Riley Overend revealed some of Reese and Bowman’s greatest gifts and highest priorities in coaching their athletes to Olympic-level greatness. Here are three takeaways that apply not only to Olympic coaches and their athletes, but to managers in every industry: https://lnkd.in/e-8FfHex #kimmel #executivesearch #careeradvice International Olympic Committee – IOC The University of Texas at Austin

Every hiring manager knows the great feeling of meeting a prospective employee and realizing that they could be a game-changer for your organization. The hiring process can be long and stressful, and when you find the perfect candidate for the role, you might be ready to make them an offer on the spot. In these scenarios, the hiring manager never pictures the candidate hesitating – it’s clearly a great fit for both parties, so what could be the holdup? The truth is, there are a lot of reasons a candidate might need to think hard before accepting a job offer, even for a job they really want. Sometimes, a candidate needs something – for example, an extended notice with their current employer, a relocation package, or a hybrid schedule – that the offer doesn’t include. #FridayFacts Most hiring managers don’t want to start the hiring process all over once they’ve found the perfect person. So, what’s the alternative? Instead of sticking with your planned offer, customize one that specifically meets this candidate’s needs. https://lnkd.in/ecS6Nwpw #kimmel #careeradvice #executivesearch

Think of the hiring process as a triathlon, not a sprint. The race does not end with extending an offer after the interview process. Like a triathlete, you must continue to give your new employee the tools to succeed during onboarding. Even after they’ve settled in, continue to assist and guide them for the long term. By following through, your reward is the gold medal of employee retention. Need help with finding top athletes (talent)? Our coaches (recruiters) are ready to help! What does it take to coach a champion and keep them motivated? University of Houston track and field coach Carl Lewis knows a little about that. Lewis, himself a nine-time Olympic Gold medalist, recently coached 21-year-old Louie Hinchcliffe to the national men’s 100m title and the Olympic track and field team. Most hiring managers aren’t trying to get their employees onto Olympic teams — but there’s still a lot they can learn from this legendary coach on how he keeps his athletes engaged, motivated, and successful as they work toward the highest levels of excellence in their field. Lewis recently revealed insights into his coaching process in an interview with Athletics Weekly. Here are the top 5 lessons from his approach and how they can enhance a company’s employee engagement and retention. https://lnkd.in/gdRJJ6Xd NBC News International Olympic Committee – IOC #kimmel #careeradvice #executivesearch
