At One Impossible Thing we want to break down barriers that impede people from participating in sport. Redistributing preloved sports shoes to those who struggle to afford them, is our main way of doing this. But we also know that sometimes motivation is a barrier from getting out there and being active. Which is why we're involved in organising the Boxmoor Virtual Marathon! The idea is to run, bike, scoot, walk, swim or wheel your way through the 26 miles/42kms, over a ten week period. In this Olympic year, the virtual marathon starts when the Olympic Flame arrives in France on 8th May. You have until mid July to complete your marathon, so you can have your finishers medal in time for the Olympic Opening Ceremony! It’s a great challenge for families, who can get out together on their bikes or on a walk together. If you do 5kms each week, you’ll have completed your marathon by July, with time to spare! All money raised through sponsorship will ensure we can carry on with all the work we do with schools, homeless charities, refugees groups and school holiday activity camps. Initially Set Up As A Community Voluntary Group In 2002 And Then Becoming A Fully Fledged UK Registered Charity Since 2010, It Has Worked With Well Over 5000 Children, Young People And Adults Since First Establishing. Since 2018 It Has Been Running All Its Operational Delivery Through Self-Generated Income With Very Minimal Grant Support – It Has Received No Local, Regional Or Government Support For Over A Decade And Yet It Is Still Here Demonstrating Determination, Grit And Resilience To Continue To Be Able To Deliver. At The Beginning Of This Financial Year The Charity Was Looking To Recruit 50 Businesses To Help Pay Towards The Core Costs Of Operating The Charity – These Efforts Will Be Intensified As Only 50% In Total Have So Far Been Secured – This Will Enable Whitefield To Be Able To Continue To Deliver Service Provision. Substantial Investment Has Come Within Burnley & Pendle Through All The Government Funding That Is Allocated By Local And Regional Authorities As Well As Large Funding Bodies Such As The National Lottery But The Key Question To Ask Is What Has Changed? Apart From The Local Charities Or Council Employees Keeping Their Jobs What Real Impact Is Being Made? Today we’re about to embark on a charity fundraising challenge, to row 544,000 metres (344 miles) on rowing machines in our gym at work. It’s a team effort, so I’m confident we’ll achieve the distance within the maximum time of 24 hours that we’ve allowed ourselves to complete it. Not that I’m expecting it to be easy, we’ve not had that many team members volunteer to take part! Such is the attraction of rowing for several hours, especially all through the night! Either way, what I’m most excited about are the multiple benefits of doing such a challenge. 1. We will raise valuable funds for our local hospice (our aim is £10k which we’re well on target to achieve). 2. We will raise the profile of our business through people sharing this challenge with new people. 3. We will increase our social media followers and connections, especially as we aim to attract more people to watch the livestream. 4. We will work together as a team and achieve something meaningful, bringing us closer together. 5. We are bringing our brand values to life by setting a challenging goal, helping other people, finding a way to make it a success, hopefully exceeding our target, and enjoying the journey throughout. When there are so many benefits to such a challenge, it really doesn’t matter how hard it is to achieve, the “why” is big enough so you’re motivated to get it done. Sometimes we’re limited not by what we’re capable of doing, but by the reasons that exist to actually do whatever it is. Make it about other people, or causes you care about, and you’ll be amazed what you are capable of, if it really matters to you. #everydays

Tasmanian greyhound racing clubs are deeply integrated into the local community, actively supporting a wide array of grassroots organisations and initiatives. In Hobart, the Greyhound Racing Club has embraced local sporting clubs by hosting sporting clubs challenge nights that benefit a variety of clubs across sports ranging from AFL to netball, offering both direct sponsorships and opportunities to win additional funding. Similarly, the Launceston Club enriches the community with race days tailored for aged care residents, creating memorable social experiences. Moreover, a collective initiative across Tasmanian clubs culminated in a generous $35,220 donation to the Ronald McDonald House Charity, significantly enhancing the support facilities for families of children undergoing medical treatments in Hobart. These initiatives underline the greyhound racing industry’s dedication to nurturing and giving back to the communities they operate in, reinforcing their role as key players in building and sustaining local community spirit. Every pedal stroke of this grueling 310-kilometre ride, completed in just 14 hours, was dedicated to raising awareness of modern slavery and supporting Ride For Freedom. Here is to 10 more great years

Life is incredible, but can be more fragile than we sometimes appreciate. This October, a team of 6 of us, will be taking on the CHX #MeetYourMountain Challenge 2024, in support of our chosen charity – The Millimetres 2 Mountains Foundation. This tiny charity, founded by Ed & Louis Jackson, after Ed Jackson (a professional rugby player at the time) suffered a life-changing and hugely traumatic spinal cord injury, leaving him paralysed from the shoulders down. Ed’s journey from hopelessness to climbing some of the highest mountains in the world, is our inspiration to go higher & further, and we hope you’ll take it with us! For those of you who know me, I am passionate about action sports and being out of my comfort zone where the risks are visible and obvious, as it can teach us our most valuable lessons. At the same time, so can charging down a hill with my little boys on their bikes. Life is incredibly special, but fragile to the same degree. Our life-circumstances can change in a heartbeat, in the midst of everyday life. That is why I am so passionate about this. Life-changing can be life-changing if we have the support to make it that way! We will be competing with 5 other teams (representing their own charities) over 2 days on the Mont Blanc massif, accumulating as many points as we can by covering as much distance, and gaining as much altitude as possible, raising as much fundraising for #M2M as we possibly can. We will be aiming for around 6km of altitude gain, equivalent to doing twice that of the British 3 peaks challenge, at twice the altitude, where the air is thinner and the summits are higher! We will endeavour to surpass 60km of distance and £12,000, aiming to get on the top step of the podium. We can of course go fast alone, but we can go further together.
