KIPP Chicago had an incredibly insightful experience at ASU+GSV Summit and the inaugural ASU+GSV AIR Show! Centered on the idea of conscious adoption and consumption, our team focused on bridging the AI revolution with human-centered learning. Educator panels spotlighted blending Afrofuturist perspectives through thoughtful tech integration, like leveraging Playlab AI to spark creativity, intellectual engagement, and cultural exploration. Teachers led demonstrations and showcased their work building these AI platforms to be more culturally inclusive for students. In a fireside chat, our Executive Director, April Montgomery Goble, joined Dr. Mahalia Hines and partner Kyron Learning's Rajen Sheth to discuss expanding possibilities through AI without losing essential human expertise. Amidst the buzz around AI's possibilities, KIPP Chicago highlighted how thoughtful integration of technology can elevate, but not replicate, the magic of engaged human-centered teaching and learning!

This is my first time at the ASU+GSV Summit and it's very exciting. A few observations so far: * It's like drinking from a firehose. So many keynotes, sessions, panels, demos... I wish I could clone myself. (Maybe next year?) * There is a lot of real innovation amid the hype. It's impressive. * Generative AI, especially multimodal GenAI and LLMs, is crowding out virtually every other category of edtech in the discourse. Certainly products/solutions in this area have great potential, but the tools are in many cases not aligned to what practitioners and district leaders are prioritizing today in 2024. * There's a noticeable divergence between presentations/panels focused on practitioners/founders and those focused on investors/publishers. One group speaks the language of educators and the other the language of finance. The two groups seem to be talking past one another, IMHO. * Personal connections are back! I've run into literally dozens of people who I haven't seen for since pre-Pandemic (or only on Zoom) and that's been really great. Makes it feel like a true celebration of this community of highly dedicated people. Thanks to the Walton Family Foundation for sponsoring me to participate in this event! #edtech #genAI

I had the privilege of attending a workshop on Deep Learning networks at IIT Palakkad on February 4-5, 2023. Day 1 delved into Deep Learning and OCR techniques, while Day 2 featured hands-on demonstrations using Raspberry Pi. We engaged with Dr. M Sabarimalai Manikandan, Professor at IIT Palakkad, and concluded with an exciting OCR project assignment. Looking forward to applying these learnings! 🌟💻 #DeepLearning #OCR #IITPalakkad

At last month's ASU+GSV AIR Show, EdLoC’s Entrepreneur-In-Residence, Andrea Foggy-Paxton, sparked a crucial conversation on equity in the age of generative AI. On her panel, Andrea emphasized the urgent need for educational AI tools that are unbiased and reflective of the diverse communities in our schools, highlighting how these technologies must empower rather than exclude. The Social Studies Accelerator, powered by EdLoC, works to ensure students have access to interdisciplinary social studies education that represents who we all are and how we collectively shape our communities and our society—because our students deserve nothing less. We are immensely proud of the dialogues our leaders and members are fostering. These discussions underline the importance of equitable access and inclusive practices in an educational landscape that's evolving at a breakneck pace. These discussions are stepping stones towards practical solutions that ensure no student feels alienated by the very tools designed to educate them. #WeAreEdLoC #ASUGSVSummit #SocialStudiesAccelerator #AIinEducation

Empowering students with cameras and trust! 🎥🌟 At this week's MTSS/PLI and Unconventional conferences, we handed cameras to students with one simple task: "Capture what excites you." The result? Genuine moments like this impromptu chat with George Couros. Using AI for editing freed our young filmmakers to fully dive into the event. They connected, celebrated, and caught real snapshots without getting bogged down in tech details. This approach yielded great content and let students' creativity flourish. It shows what can happen when we trust young minds and pair their fresh outlook with smart tech. #StudentPower #EdTech #AuthenticLearning #GeorgeCouros"
