We do that through a number of programs, including tuition assistance, college scholarships for employees' children and leadership development programs. We also support a number of educational initiatives in our local schools, such as SeaPerch, FIRST Robotics, and tutoring programs as a part of our #CommitmentToOurCommunities. #NationalHigherEducationDay

I planted a seed in John, and I am glad to know that it is beginning to sprout right before I leave the fellowship. John, 14, is one of the kids I met in my class when I joined the fellowship in 2022. He used to be a child who was all on his own, with low confidence, struggling with learning, and having just repeated the class. I understood all these challenges and tried to view things from his perspective. It took a while to encourage him and get him more interested in learning, but eventually, my efforts are beginning to pay off. I believe this outcome is a result of the different strategies I tried with him. One thing that stood out was getting him involved in class activities by asking him questions, which kept him engaged. I would encourage him with kind words if his answer was incorrect and reward him for a job well done whenever he got a question right. Also, the fact that I would have one-to-one conversation with him made a difference. This was the turning point, as he developed his confidence, overcame the stigma of repeating a class, and now converses freely with classmates. While there are certain decisions he might have felt were not in his favor, I hope he understands better in the future why those decisions were made. I believe that the other areas we are working on will continue to develop even after my stay at the school. Day 4: Most Memorable Day in School. While I try to think of which day to consider as the most memorable day, it's so difficult to highlight a day leaving the rest. In my two years of service, each day has been special because it comes with its uniqueness. Each day comes with its challenges, love, and learning, making every step worth the while. I just participated in Strathcona-Tweedsmuir (#STS)'s Innovation Day, and I'm feeling incredibly encouraged and inspired by the fantastic work carried out by the teachers and STS team in fostering a dynamic learning environment. The integration of core subjects with technology, creativity, and outdoor activities is truly impressive. The day concluded with a captivating Dragon's Den session, where grade 12 students presented their ideas in 1.5 to 2-minute pitches. Their outstanding presentation skills, coupled with innovative inventions, showcased not only their talents but also the effectiveness of the coaching they received. It's a testament to the incredible potential of today's youth, whose intelligence deserves serious consideration. Taking a moment to explore the alumni achievements displayed on the wall of fame outside the Theatre, I was struck by the consistent theme of how the school inspired confidence and provided the resources and support necessary for graduates to pursue any path they desired. This stands in stark contrast to my own school experience in the 1960s and 1970s. Having attended a Catholic school run by nuns during my grade school years, the environment was restrictive and punitive. Mistakes were heavily penalized, often meted out with rulers or straps, and some students even faced physical punishment like being hit over the head with books. In junior high and high school, if you excelled or had interests outside of sports, it was best to keep them to yourself to avoid bullying. The overall atmosphere felt like a prison in elementary and junior high, progressing to a sense of probation in high school. Graduating early, I couldn't wait to leave, and my memories of those years are few and far from positive. Witnessing the evolution of education over the years, I'm overjoyed and inspired to see the positive changes and opportunities provided for students today. #sts2024 #Strathconatweedsmuir #innovationday #technology #creativity #support #learninganddevelopment
