Vote for a Better South Africa As we approach the elections on May 29th, let’s reflect on the power of privilege. A powerful video shows a teacher using a race to highlight how different privileges create an uneven playing field. In South Africa, these disparities are stark. We need leaders who will address structural inequalities and deliver better services—fixing potholes, improving infrastructure, and fostering development. Let’s choose leaders committed to leveling the playing field and ensuring better service delivery for all. Together, we can build a fairer, more just society. Let’s vote for change. https://lnkd.in/di6aPwkK

In our 3rd meeting at ARCC we discussed the difference between being non-racist vs being anti-racist. We discussed these terms in relation to MLK’s Letter from Birmingham Jail. The conversations we had were very impactful, so I thought I’d share what I took from it. To be a non-racist is to be someone who doesn’t participate in racism but is also the person who doesn’t stand up against it, or those who are victims of it. To be an anti-racist is to be someone that is a part of the conversation, fighting against the hate in many ways. Whether that fight may be with family and friends, during protests, etc. To be a non-racist is to be parallel to the White moderate described in the Letter from Birmingham Jail. DON'T be a White moderate. BE an anti-racist. I recommend reading MLK’s Letter from Birmingham Jail: https://lnkd.in/esi9scnR. I also suggest joining ARCC and looking through ARCC’s content on the website. I suggest following ARCC on Instagram, subscribing on YouTube, and listening to the podcast on your favorite streaming platform. https://lnkd.in/eHzn4JdT

The interest and demand for reparations for America’s descendants of slavery (ADOS) is growing, as home ownership, education, and wealth gaps continue to grow. Historic racism, genocide, and wealth extraction require policies and investments that are equally as intentional about repair, reconciliation, truth and healing. It’s time to build plans that center African American people and visions. The Case for Reparations: https://lnkd.in/g4eqnNcv

Although my book focused on the dangers of right-wing extremism and the gateway drug of fundamentalism, I wanted to take a moment today and post about left-wing extremism and the economy of outrage that exists between extremists. Specifically, I became aware today that one of the many "Animal Liberation" organizations has a 24-hour "action plan" for tomorrow, which hopefully is just peaceful protesting but will likely be inflammatory as per their history. They anticipate counter-protests and seem prepared, so if you have college-age kids, you might check in with them and have "the talk" about not being a tool. This conversation doesn't have to be confrontational; acknowledging that kids will be kids is vital for de-escalation and productive communication. You don't have to tell them not to have opinions, keep them quiet, or never attend a protest, but make them aware that other agendas exist.
