Layoffs can be tough, confusing and leave you asking a lot of questions. As someone who was laid off last year, I know how difficult it can be to process. It's especially hard for those of us who are overachievers and always strive to do our best. Unfortunately, we don't always get the closure we need. To those who have recently gone through layoffs at Greenhouse Software and 2U, I promise you that things will be okay. You will get through this and come out stronger on the other side. Bittersweet Post Alert: Embracing Change and Gratitude 🌟 After surviving multiple rounds of layoffs, I navigated through a rollercoaster of feelings—survivor guilt for fallen colleagues, stress from increased workload, and uncertainty about my future. And then, it came. The dreaded phone call: "Due to restructuring, we no longer have a need for your position." A blow that reverberated through the entirety of the life I had meticulously crafted. I felt the pain of watching my role in a company I loved gradually disappear. The weeks that followed were a whirlwind of emotions—training others to take over, witnessing the remaining team members struggle with newfound responsibilities, and seeing the efforts we made over the last year crumble. It felt like planning my own funeral, watching the essence of my time there vanish. Yet, in reflection, I recognize that the skills, experiences, relationships, and connections I cultivated matter. I am grateful for the closure and will never forget the amazing people and #officedogs! Now, a new chapter begins. I'm officially #OpenToWork! Change has been a constant in my life, and I'm ready to leverage my adaptability to embrace the unknown. Sympathizing when reading the headlines about layoffs just isn’t the same as this type of thing affecting you personally. It stirs up so many emotions and feels impossible to prepare for. Even posting this is more difficult than I imagined. I’m now officially looking for my next opportunity to make an impact. At times like these it's not easy, but I remain a huge believer that change is a catalyst for growth and new beginnings. I'm proud and humbled to look back knowing I recruited, hired, and led a team of 13 exceptionally talented people that I know will continue to do incredible things. The future is bright for each of them. I’m now seeking a marketing leadership or strategic partnerships position where I can leverage my experience and passion for Fintech and financial empowerment. Community Update (12/7): It's the best of times, it's not the best of times as we're seeing all sides of this wonky market. This week, one new addition and one soon-to-be departure. End of year layoffs ramp up but so have job postings. The executive merry-go-round continues as new C-suites are installed at agencies, around ad tech and marketing to put a fresh face out there for 2024. Maybe this is setting up well for change so we can get back to including strategy in the mix, and therefore get these super smart, experienced executives back to work.
