𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐇𝐢𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐏𝐚𝐫𝐚𝐝𝐨𝐱: 𝐇𝐢𝐫𝐞 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐓𝐚𝐬𝐤𝐬 𝐘𝐨𝐮 𝐊𝐧𝐨𝐰 𝐯𝐬. 𝐓𝐚𝐬𝐤𝐬 𝐘𝐨𝐮 𝐃𝐨𝐧'𝐭 🤔 Hiring is the highest leverage activity a leader can do. But, which role do you hire? 1️⃣ Hire someone for tasks you 𝒂𝒍𝒓𝒆𝒂𝒅𝒚 know so you can:  - Delegate more tasks  - Increase your throughput rate - Focus on higher-value activities Think junior roles like Growth or Operation Associate or generalist roles like Chief of Staff or Operations Team Lead.  2️⃣ Hire someone for tasks you 𝒅𝒐𝒏’𝒕 𝒌𝒏𝒐𝒘 so you can:  - Solve a critical bottleneck  - Increase task specialization  - Unleash creativity and growth Think functional roles such as Social Media Manager, Software Engineer, or Accounting Lead. I think the right answer is both—the best leaders hire a mix of junior generalists and expert specialists. But, every hire should propel the organization forward ⏩ The best hires I've made added more value than I could have imagined And left me saying "I wish I hired this person sooner!"

I DID IT! I've officially made my first hire! I was looking for two candidates: a business assistant and a content manager. I have zero experience in hiring but wanted to try to do it myself. Long story short: the search for the business assistant continues as it's turning out to be much harder than I thought. I began with the business assistant. What do I have? - I didn't like 80% of the applications - 10% of people didn't meet the deadline for the test task - other candidates either send me very strange test tasks or deleted our dialogues and disappeared altogether In the end, NO ONE made it to the final call with me. But I don't regret at all. It's been a great experience, and I haven't given up hope of finding this team member. However, I successfully filled the second vacancy. Almost on the first try! During the call with that candidate, I honestly said that I was a bit nervous because it was my first experience in recruitment, so I might not be familiar with some of the nuances. I banked on sincerity, and you know what? It helped me a lot! Within 5 minutes, we were already sharing laughs over common jokes. I realized - it was a 100% match with her! I knew I wanted to work with this wonderful person. As a result, we've been working together for almost a month now, and both of us feel comfortable with each other. I ask for the feedback on work processes, and she said that everything is super clear and structured. She's satisfied, I'm satisfied. Great result! Diversity in hiring is like painting a picture! Imagine you are running a company. You decide to hire a new team. You create a vivid picture showing a mix of different backgrounds and perspectives, and display it for everyone to see. That’s your job advertisement. If you set up programs that encourage applications from diverse groups, that’s your diversity initiative. If an industry conference highlights your diverse team and journalists write about your inclusive practices, that’s your visibility. If employees share online how your inclusive environment helps them thrive, that’s your reputation. If you describe the benefits of a diverse team and how it drives innovation and problem-solving, that’s your pitch. Titles I have held in the last two years: 🟫 Operations Support Specialist 🟫 Executive Assistant to the Chief of Staff 🟫 Jr. Chief of Staff 🟫 Director of Events 🟫 Operations Analyst Within the same company, I transitioned seamlessly through the first four titles, demonstrating my adaptability and commitment. Last is my current title. As my career progressed, I embraced each challenge head-on and stepped into roles where there was a critical need. This led me to take on the position of Director of Events, despite having limited prior experience in the events world. I held this title until I was laid off. Navigating the resume creation and job application process proved challenging, given the lack of years of experience required for event positions. I couldn't shake the thought that I might have been overlooked for roles where my qualifications far exceeded the expectations, possibly influenced by the emphasis on my most recent job title. I am thankful that Lumen Technologies saw beyond my title and appreciated the relevant experience that I've acquired throughout the years of my career rather than where I was in that moment of time. In addition, their hiring process allowed me to showcase my skills more before even interviewing with someone. It was such an impressive experience. Your worth extends far beyond the confines of professional labels. If your current trajectory doesn't align with your desired destination, remember that there is still time to chart a new course and redefine your path. The journey toward your goal is ongoing, and every step you take contributes to your success. I saw a post with something similar that inspired me.
