When employers don’t know their employees, it is the company that suffers because of all the wasted talent and skill sets. A business owner hast to learn more about their employees at a personal level. They need to learn more about that employees, goals and ambitions. They need to learn what makes that particular employee tick. Is it money? Is the titles? Is it acknowledgment? Is it awards? What exactly is it that makes that person want to work for you and stay working for you? Managers, and business owners need to get off their high horse, stop hiding in offices, and make time to learn more about who works for them, because they never know what untapped, talent or potential they are letting go to waste.

Helping Michigan Businesses Address Legal Challenges | On-Demand Fractional GC Support | Co-Founder Dalton & Tomich
Understanding the principles of at-will employment is critical for Michigan business owners and employers. At its core, at-will employment allows for a flexible working relationship where either the employer, or the employee can terminate the employment relationship at any time, for any reason that is not illegal, or for no reason at all. However, this concept, while straightforward in theory, often becomes a complex field for employers to navigate in practice, fraught with potential misunderstandings and legal pitfalls. In a new article on the Dalton & Tomich website (link in the comments), I dig into what at-will employment is, its limitations and exceptions, and best practices for employers to mitigate risks.

What does Worth Walking On mean to us? Worth Walking On is what our company culture is all about and how each one of our team members contribute to the experience with Walker’s. Success is in the details in everything we do from start to finish, with how we engage with each other, to ultimately a customer’s experience with us. It is how clean our building is, how it smells, how we greet our customers, how we design a job, how we offer suggestions, how we offer solutions, and everything in between to how it gets installed and how it looks as a finished product. Sure, we are not perfect, and we will make mistakes, however the detail in how we solve the opportunities to get better matters as well until the customer is happy and satisfied with our services and products that are Worth Walking On. #worthwalkingon

From Seed To Decay Recently I was on the beach. As I looked at the driftwood, it reminded me of the cycle of life. Most of us spend the waking hours of our careers at work. If that is what will consume most of our time, it makes sense to maximize our chosen path. Is the work life you have chosen fulfilling you? If not, should you make a change? #AutomotiveIndustry #LeanManufacturing #ManufacturingOperations #Manufacturing #HumanistManufacturing

October is Employee Ownership Month, and at Woodruff, being 100% Employee Owned isn't just a tagline - it's the essence of who we are. It means that each and every one of us has a stake in the company's success. We're not just employees; we're owners, collaborators, and innovators. Being employee-owned means: • We have a direct impact on our company's growth and profitability. When we succeed, we all share in the rewards. • Our voices are heard, and our ideas matter. We have a say in the decisions that shape our future. • We're in it together for the long haul. Employee ownership fosters a sense of unity and commitment among us. • We're more than colleagues; we're a family. Our success is interwoven with each other's, and we support one another every step of the way. #ESOPMonth #EmployeeOwnership #WoodruffConstruction #100PercentEmployeeOwned

All of this cold weather makes us wish we were back at Josh's Frogs like we were back in July because it is so toasty in there! Josh's Frogs was the July Employer for our Employer Showcase! They are a fast-growing online pet store and leader in the industry, and they pride themselves on selling only happy, healthy captive-bred amphibians, reptiles, and insects. They respect and protect their people and animals, value integrity, and commit to constant improvement. They promote from within and offer ample opportunities for growth and advancement. Josh's Frogs was one of the INC 5000's fastest-growing businesses in 2022, this year is their FIFTH year in a row on the INC 5000 List!
