During his keynote address at the Future Talent Council conference, Yuval Harari had shared an astute observation about LLMs: Since the model itself is not designed by anyone in any meaningful sense of the term, but rather has “built itself” from the data it’s been fed, the term “artificial intelligence” is in fact a bit misleading. We normally use the term “artifact” to refer to a man-made object. However, the observation above means that LLMs are not really man-made, so Harari proposed to refer to these systems as “alien intelligence”.
