It was a real pleasure to chair these fantastic panel members; Hoa Doan, Colin Sinclair, David Aspin, Jeegar Kakkad this morning as part of the “Shaping the future of UK innovation and economic development” event co-hosted by the UK Innovation Districts Group and ARUP. Thanks to panel members and all those who took part in a very rich and timely discussion today on how the practice of Innovation Districts can help inform emerging innovation growth policy. Some of the key highlights I took away include: § As many UK Innovation Districts start to mature, the focus on supporting scaling organisations becomes increasingly important. § So too is the focus on the right type of growth (and shared value return to places), not growth at any cost. #inclusiveinnovation #goodgrowth § Innovation diffusion through supply chains and working with existing manufacturing companies is part of this story. As is investing properly in diverse talent pipelines, wider social value and addressing societal challenges head on. § We need the hard and soft infrastructure in equal measure to be able to do this. We also need to rethink taxation regimes and investment models that favour a risk economy; as this capital and capacity flow underpins the innovation economy. § Now is the time to inject more Pace, Purpose and Passion into the way we work, as this will go a long way towards unlocking our innovation capacity. #ukinnovationdistrictsgroup #innovationdistricts #placebasedinnovation #innovationpolicy #economicgrowth Tom Bridges Stella Jones

1dI was only able to join for the beginning Emma Frost but it was thoroughly interesting and inspiring. I loved how empowered the speakers were about taking control of driving innovation. My world of housing can feel battered and bruised…the sense of ‘getting stuff done’ was a call to action for us all.
