📚 Another enriching semester teaching Economics of Information & Risk concepts at the University of Paris I: Panthéon-Sorbonne is coming to a close! Four years ago, I embarked on this teaching journey never foreseeing the wealth of learning that awaited me. The brilliance, innovation, and energy of my students have been an ongoing source of inspiration. Here's what this experience with over 300 students has taught me: 💡 Sharpened Presentation Skills: Engaging with such bright minds for extended periods has honed my ability to present ideas effortlessly. Last week, we had the distinct privilege of sharing lunch and engaging in a profoundly enlightening conversation with Professor Adnan Qadir Khan, the Chief Economist and Director for the Economics and Evaluation Directorate at the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO). Additionally, Professor Khan serves as a distinguished faculty member at the School of Public Policy here at the LSE. Our discussions centered around the realms of Development Economics and Public Policy, during which Professor Khan graciously reflected on his professional journey within this specialized domain, offering valuable insights gleaned from his experiences. The focal points of our dialogue included a thorough exploration of the practical challenges confronting development policy specialists in their day-to-day work and effective strategies for navigating these challenges. The conversation was particularly inspiring, allowing us to closely observe Professor Khan's perspectives on the foundational elements of a successful career in research and policymaking. His insights shed light on how young professionals, like ourselves, can refine our approaches in this dynamic field. I am fortunate enough to get the opportunity to do the module titled 'Public Organisations' under Professor Khan in the upcoming term. Presented in the frame is the current cohort of the MSc Economic Policy for International Development (2023-24) alongside Professor Khan. A particularly noteworthy aspect is the composition of this year's group, totalling 15 individuals representing 13 distinct nationalities. The richness of diversity within our cohort significantly enhances the learning experience, infusing our discussions with a plethora of cross-cultural and cross-country perspectives. The latest release of Times Higher Education's World University Rankings for 2024 shows a change in the top 10 rankings for business and economics. American and British universities still dominate, but two Chinese universities, Tsinghua and Peking, have entered the top rankings, indicating a shift from five years ago. Harvard University has also improved its position, moving up to third place. However, the London School of Economics and Political Science has fallen to the 11th position. The rankings also highlight the progress made by the University of Reading and the University of Massachusetts, both entering the top 100.
