A high OEE score means nothing …if it doesn’t account for rework. When the quality lab identifies issues with a product, the standard response is usually reprocessing the product to meet requirements, and hardly ever scraping it. Technically, this is classified as rework. But there could be times when it isn’t marked as such. Why? When you judge operator performance on OEE, it creates a transparency gap where rework is often not logged as rework. This creates discrepancies in OEE data, meaning if operators are punished for low OEE, the chances of the OEE reflecting actual figures are lower. Unreported rework creates an illusion of higher quality, whereas additional time and resources are being expended to fix the problem – resources that aren't reflected in the OEE score. This means you end up with a higher but misleading OEE score, and a plethora of unsolved problems. But a culture that promotes transparency, accountability, and problem-solving instead of punishment eradicates this problem. So if you struggle with efficiency despite a high OEE over at your facility, ask yourself if you have managed to establish a culture like this yet. And if not, it’s time to spring into action. #oee #quality

It's one of the reasons why in IoT projects sometimes I just focus on the improvement part rather than on the absolute value. It'll often bring me more "political capital" (or credibility) to get the number up, rather than a discussion about the details (which does still need to happen, but in the meantime, you can educate the ignorant).
