Some days, it seems like 99% of the resumes I see are like bowls of spaghetti. And while I love good pasta, resumes should be more like shooting a bow and arrow. If you're wondering how to close a career gap after staying home with kiddos as a #SAHM or #stayathomeparent, don't call yourself "Founder" at a company called "Chief Home Management" or the "Morris Homestead" or the "Morris Domicile" or anything equally as ridiculous. Say that you took a career break. Your title is Stay at Home Parent. That's it. For myself, I'm pretty proud of keeping my kiddos fed and relatively clean while I took my break. 𝙎𝙘𝙖𝙢 𝘼𝙡𝙚𝙧𝙩. I had a client this morning email me the following from a supposed recruiting agency, "It looks like the file you uploaded was not a valid resume, and our system is unable to read it." 🛑 𝐑𝐞𝐝 𝐟𝐥𝐚𝐠 #𝟏 - Word is ATS scannable. Universally. It might have elements that are not, like tables or text boxes, but if you upload MS Word, it is ATS scannable, and you should not ever get a message like this. 🛑 𝐑𝐞𝐝 𝐟𝐥𝐚𝐠 #𝟐 - I looked up the company, and they do not have a LinkedIn company page. Given that LinkedIn is the best platform for recruiters to find candidates, that simply makes no sense. 🛑 𝐑𝐞𝐝 𝐟𝐥𝐚𝐠 #𝟑 - The email address this message came from did not match the .com URL. What's on my mind today has to do with courage. I talk to amazing clients who have done amazing things and often, they don't feel comfortable sharing those things. As a #jobseeker, 𝐿𝐸𝒜𝒩 𝐼𝒩 to what you've done, but stick with the facts. What am I talking about? My client today moved to the US from the EU. The big deal is that she did it in the middle of the pandemic and not only launched her new business but turned it cash-positive within 12 months. Friday's client is in PR but had never thought about specifically calling out the impact of her campaigns. I can guarantee you that there is quantifiable business impact out there! What's an example from your career that is really spectacular?

Here's a simple tip to streamline your job search: Once per day, go to the search bar at the top of LinkedIn and add your target job title + hiring. Filter by posts to see who is looking for you!

I don't know who needs to hear this today, but own your accomplishments. Stop shying away from being proud of what you've made happen. As long as there is data to back you up, it isn't bragging.
