Three months ago, I started a new challenge at ThoughtLeaders. With the short time I have been here, I can tell you that the company knows how to live up to its name, that I understand how strong it is in the industry, and all the potential there is going forward. In my first weeks here, David Tintner mentioned to me that the mission of the company is to pay creators to make more content. Whoever knows me a little bit knows how passionate I am about creation and creativity, and this company philosophy couldn't be more aligned with my personality. After a few months here, David mentioned that this company is built of superstars, and I totally agree with that. The Kulani Kini ethics, forward thinking attitude and all over energy was something I wanted to be a part of. Q: What are you most looking forward to doing in your new role? 👙 A: I'm in a really lovely position where I have a blank canvas to come in and build out the Influencer Partnerships & PR team. I have a lot of ideas on how we can be making an even bigger mark on the influencer industry and how we are going to be aligning ourselves. We have amazing opportunities to disrupt the market and work on some exciting new projects so, you will have to keep your eyes out for what I have in store. Q: What is your career background? ⭐️ A: So some of you may not know that I am actually Irish but having been working in the UK for most of my career so far. My background is primarily in PR account management, PR can be seen as one of those vague areas where it covers so many aspects of a brand strategy from social media and events to nurturing brand ambassadors and influencer collaborations. Leading on from that, most recently I was exclusively managing talent across various sectors including fashion, lifestyle and sports. After a debilitating back injury took away her ability to partake in activities or walk, emergency surgery helped her recover and reevaluate priorities. Danielle wanted to dedicate more of her time to the things she loved, pivoting from a successful career in hospitality marketing and PR into an industry she was more connected with. She is passionate about strategizing and leading teams to execute an efficient, effective media mix in a full-funnel model. I would like to hear your thoughts. Pitch in and let’s begin a series of discussions! What is your take on celebrity endorsements? As a healthcare brand, I am still on the journey of figuring out the pros and cons of this. On one hand, we have renowned brands that spend a huge sum on celebrity endorsements, advertisements, influencer marketing and more. And on the other hand, we have skincare brands like ‘The Ordinary’ who stand by their philosophy of educating the common people on what goes into their products and keeping their marketing to just stating facts or rather science. I am leaving a link to their advertisements in the comments. A touch of humour and a lot of science is what they use. No celebrities and no intriguing visuals! I’m largely impressed at how they have made this influence by hitting the right cords. As a surgeon myself, I have spent 15+ years in medical education and another 15+ years practising as an aesthetic surgeon. Does that not vouch for my credibility and what I could offer to patients? Despite spending many years learning in-depth about the field, do I have to seek celebrity endorsement for brand building? Adding my two cents to the Michael Cera for CeraVe buzz on LinkedIn, because this campaign just feels like a textbook example of 'Hire great people and get out of the way.’ Speaking of which, who's the CCO of WPP these days? 🤔 The link between Mr. Cera and CeraVe, speculated by Reddit and turned into reality by Ogilvy, showcases more than clever marketing—it’s a nod to embracing creativity across the board. From strategic media placements to selecting influencers and a PR narrative that keeps us guessing (but not really tho), the campaign is a masterclass in letting talent shine. Were there a 'Best Casting' accolade at Cannes, akin to the Oscars' new category, this campaign would be the undisputed champ. It’s not just about Michael Cera. Or Bobbi Althoff, and Hayley Kalil in the lead-up, or even giving Tim&Eric creative carte blanche in the TV spot; it's about the impeccable behind-the-scenes decisions, from production, media, and PR, that knit together this seamless, integrated tale. About five years ago, like most other agencies, we hopped on the "influencer" marketing train to help our client partners generate more clicks and ultimately, sales. But what we quickly learned is that just focusing on influence - -how many likes or followers someone has -- does not make a successful campaign. From those learnings, we decided we were going to focus on advocacy by identifying and engaging with those who actually advocate for a product, service or even a problem they are facing and how they are trying to solve it. They might not have the most followers or the biggest communities compared to others, but those people are more deeply engaged with the advocate which ultimately helps create more authentic content, deeper engagement and meaningful brand loyalty. This focus on advocacy has led Carve to execute amazingly successful advocate marketing campaigns for a number of clients, all led and driven by our own Aixa Bellido de Luna.
