It is late on a Friday at our One Manhattan West office. It is eerily empty, and also a bit melancholy for me. This is not just another Friday. It is my last day as a Partner with EY. I started here a little over nine years ago. I was already 32 years into a career that began when I was in college selling IT outsourcing and custom application development to SMBs to pay the bills. EY was the fifth major milestone in my professional journey, and there will be at least two more assuming my mind and body are willing. Technically I am not leaving. I will continue on in role a bit longer as a non-Partner to lean in with our team to help pivot our Partner Ecosystem into the new EY “All In” strategy we just publicly announced. So why the sense of loss? It turns out there is something special about being one of 14K partners spanning a network of over 160 countries. I would not have thought so coming in from a large corporate tech company, but the feeling of being part of something we all collectively own with shared risk and shared reward is quite extraordinary. And when those Partners, and 400K people that make up the enteprise, are consistently excellent and culturally aligned - it is magic. It has been an honor and a privilege to have been a small part of a massive force for economic and social good that dates back one-and-half centuries. I cannot begin to thank everyone I have worked with over the years, but I do want to thank some of the people who brought me here a decade ago: Hank, Michael, Raj, Hyong, John, and the late great Clayton Baker. I also want to thank the global executive team that put their trust in me to take us on our Partners Ecosystem growth journey: Jay, Andy, Steve, Marna, Errol, and Carmine. And I want to thank my great colleagues on our Global Markets Leadership Team: Hanne, Sam, Walter, Ryan, Paul, Erika, Craig, Kenneth, Oliver, and Darren. Finally, thank you to our incredible global #EYEcosystems team: Kelly, Kathy, Jim, Justine, Mark, John, Paul, Bruce, Johnny, Frank, Rich, Scott, Stephanie, Jens, Anindo, Brian, and so many more. It has been my great honor to work with all of you to create such great impact. Though I will be back at it on Monday, it won’t quite be the same. I will genuinely miss belonging to the greatest partnership in the world.

A Farewell Note Colleagues, past and present: As I move on from Deloitte after 30 years, eight of these as CEO of South Asia, I would like to express my appreciation for your friendship and collegiality. I do so with pride, gratitude, and humility. In this period, I have also represented us on the Asia Pacific and Global Executive, a rare privilege for a chosen few. It was truly an honour to be invited to the Partnership in 1995. As I stepped into my first partner meeting as the 13th partner in a 90+ year firm, I felt a surge of pride to be associated with persons of unimpeachable personal integrity and professional commitment. As I completed my term as CEO, I was deeply touched by the affection I experienced from over 600 partners, at the 2023 partner meeting. Life took us forward and upwards at an unbelievable pace, and we held tight on the rollercoaster journey. Together, many of us faced the impact of auditor rotation rules, giving up prized audits that successive generations within the firm had worked on, while replacing these with new engagements. Shortly thereafter, corporate failures raised public questions on the role of the profession, and it was a time for introspection and change. In this environment, we made choices on how we would transform, growing to be the best and not necessarily the biggest, while providing satisfying career opportunities to our people. We retained our leading position in audit, substantially enhanced our tax practice, and created a world-class advisory practice, without compromising on the founding tenets of integrity and quality. Today, our consulting practice holds pride of place in the Deloitte network. Our ability to attract people to join us is in no small measure due to our inclusive culture and sense of partnership. We are rightfully recognised as a one of the world’s best places to work. I leave with the satisfaction that we have institutionalised enduring success, thoughtfully balancing values and accomplishment, and the impact of our actions on people we care about. This is our legacy. There are lessons learned. In this period, I recognised that embracing other people as part of self builds mutual trust and collaboration. I learned that courage is key to success, and most times our biggest critics are our best friends. I experienced that while growth has its pangs, collaborative transformation is exhilarating and does not necessarily entail pain. I schooled myself to look to long-term outcomes, rather than immediate reward, investing in the future while living in the real and imminent present. In closing, I thank each of you for living life with purpose, and with pride in our collective skills and achievements. It is in your companionship, and with the love from my family, that I have experienced true happiness.
