Again, Physicians for Informed Consent is being called out for their lies. The World Health Organization (WHO) published the first guidance for the clinical management of diphtheria, a disease caused by a toxin-producing bacteria. Diphtheria often leads to symptoms including sore throat and difficulty breathing and is fatal in 5% to 10% of cases. The new guidelines suggest clinicians give diphtheria antitoxin injections without relying on a routine skin sensitivity test first. Physicians should give an escalating dose to people with suspected or diagnosed diphtheria depending on how severe the illness is and when symptoms began. In addition, clinicians should treat patients with antibiotics like azithromycin over penicillin. This situation is concerning as antibiotics resistance is growing and may led to treatment failures. On the other end, vaccination for diphtheria is safe, efficacious and protective. Why put your child at risk of a 5-10% death rate while a simple vaccine would offer lifetime protection ? This is why LinkedIn was a much better place when Physicians for Informed Consent was banned. No more lies around vaccines. Let’s make sure that LinkedIn does the right thing, but this time ban Physicians for Informed Consent for ever. There should be no room for such lies here…
What treatments are available for diphtheria? Diphtheria is a bacterial infection that can be treated with diphtheria antitoxin and antibiotics (erythromycin or procaine penicillin G). Respiratory support and airway maintenance can also be used if needed. Most cases of diphtheria resolve after several days and may include sore throat, loss of appetite, and low grade fever. Some cases develop a barking cough, swelling of the neck, and airway obstruction.
