For physicians to trust AI they must have a seat at the executive table where related decisions are discussed. Ultimately, doctors should make those decisions. In an ideal world, all technologies in #healthcare would be designed, vetted and ultimately deployed only with the direct input and blessing of the doctors and clinicians who use them. But with AI, it is absolutely imperative that this occur. The stakes associated with AI applications in clinical settings are simply too serious for any other option to be accepted – whether it’s providing decision support for the diagnosis of disease or patient support in the form of chatbots. As an advocate of AI scribes in medicine, I've experienced firsthand the transformative impact they have on our daily workflow. Not only do they save precious time, but they alleviate the administrative burden, allowing clinicians to focus more on patient care. Personally, integrating AI scribes has freed up an average of 2 hours of paperwork per day for me, making it incredibly difficult to revert to the traditional methods. This isn’t just about legal liability; it’s about maintaining the trust that is foundational to the patient-caregiver relationship. As we embrace the benefits of AI in healthcare, let’s do so with a clear understanding that technology is a tool to assist—not replace—the essential human role in medical decision-making. As a seasoned medical veteran, I can attest to the advantages AI brings to the crucial task of documenting patient encounters. Allow me to demonstrate how AI is revolutionizing note-taking and enhancing the doctor-patient interaction: 1. Summarizing Patient Conversations: Imagine a world where AI can swiftly analyse vast amounts of data and recognize patterns. The days of laboriously transcribing every detail will be gone. This will not only streamline your note-taking process but also provide a comprehensive overview for quick reference. The precision and efficiency brought by AI in summarizing patient encounters are invaluable. It heroically allows medical professionals to focus on critical decision-making rather than drowning in paperwork.   2. The Next best course of action: You know by now that oversight can be detrimental. In this regard, AI will serve as an astute assistant, prompting the next steps to ensure crucial details are not forgotten. By analysing patient histories, lab results, and treatment plans, AI can intelligently suggest follow-up actions, preventive measures, or additional diagnostic tests. This not only enhances the accuracy of medical documentation but also acts as a fail-safe mechanism, preventing oversights and fostering a proactive approach to patient care. As opposed to how many think, AI in my eyes is a dependable ally, that can manage complex and dynamic healthcare scenarios.   3. More room for more interaction: Patient wait times are a known nightmare these days. And in the fight against it, incorporating AI into note-taking is the liberation of time for meaningful doctor-patient interaction. Traditionally, you often find yourself immersed in paperwork. You have to allocate substantial time to document every aspect of patient interaction. With AI seamlessly handling the note-taking process, you can redirect your focus to what matters most: Your patients. The extra time fosters unhurried discussions, empathy-driven interactions, and a deeper understanding of patients' concerns.
