Speaker | DEI Advocate | Women in Tech | Psychological safety | Driving Innovation and Inclusion: Head of DEI & Head of Benelux at Templeton & Partners
Empowering the Next Generation: Representation Matters 👧 👩 Representation is powerful. When young girls see women thriving in tech, it sparks a sense of possibility and ambition that can shape their futures. Here's why it matters: Role Models Inspire: When young girls see women excelling in tech—whether as engineers, data scientists, or entrepreneurs—they can envision themselves in similar roles. This breaks down stereotypes and opens up new career aspirations. Creating Future Leaders: Encouraging girls to pursue tech isn't just about filling jobs; it's about building a pipeline of future female leaders. Women bring unique perspectives and drive innovation, making the tech industry stronger and more inclusive. How We Can Foster Representation: Showcase Success Stories: Highlight the achievements of women in tech through media, conferences, and mentorship programs. Mentorship Programs: Connect young girls with women in tech to provide guidance and inspiration. Educational Initiatives: Support programs like Girls Who Code, Black Girls Code and Hack your Future that teach tech skills from an early age. Inclusive Work Environments: Foster workplaces that attract and retain women in tech roles through flexible conditions, equal pay, and career development. Community Support: Build networks where girls and women in tech can connect and support each other. When we empower young girls by showing them successful women in tech, we create a ripple effect. These girls grow up to become role models themselves, inspiring the next generation. Let's continue to showcase, support, and celebrate women in tech, paving the way for a diverse and innovative future. #WomenInTech #DiversityInTech #STEM #FutureLeaders #RepresentationMatters

Picture this: a Zoom room full of brilliant, driven #women, all gathered to discuss the burning issues facing us in #tech. The energy is palpable, the ideas are flowing, and the hashtags are flying. It's the kind of event that reminds you why you got into this industry in the first place – to make a difference, to break barriers, to prove that girls really can do anything. And then, as part of all the inspiration and innovation, Alison Derbenwick Miller and I take the stage. Alison, with her infectious passion and her parents' mantra of "Girls can do anything" ringing in her ears, and me, fueled by the legacy of my mother's trailblazing career in #technology in the wilds of USSR. We're here to talk about something that's been on everyone's minds, but no one quite knows how to tackle: the disparity between what women and men actually do at #work in the tech industry, and how the title of the role doesn't always correspond with the duties. But here's the thing – we're not just here to talk about the problem. We're here to do something about it. That's where our collaboration with Savvitas comes in. This autumn, we're launching a survey that aims to get to the heart of what women really do at work. And we're not just asking women – we want to hear from everyone in tech. Because let's face it, this isn't just a women's issue. It's an industry issue, and it's going to take all of us to solve it. Now, I know what you're thinking. "Another survey? How is that going to change anything?" But here's where it gets exciting. We're not just collecting #data for the sake of it. We're using cutting-edge WishKnish Corp. tech to ensure that every single response is entirely secure and confidential. We're talking quantum-level encryption, folks. So you can speak your truth without fear of retribution or backlash. Because until we know the extent of the problem beyond (heaps of) anecdotal evidence, how can we get the groundswell of attention we need to address it for ourselves - not to mention our daughters, younger sisters, nieces? So here's my call to action: join us. Take the survey when it launches. Encourage your colleagues, your friends, your networks to do the same. Because the more voices we have, the more powerful our message becomes. And to the potential partners and sponsors out there – we need you too. Help us make this survey a reality. Help us take this data and turn it into tangible change. This is just the beginning of something big. Something transformative. Something that could change the face of the tech industry. We hope. And it all starts with a simple question: what do women really do at work? An energetic #WBWCaucus with many innovative ideas. Thank you to our inspiring chair, speed-keynote speakers, discussion chairs and delegates. 💠 Session chair, Runa Magnusdottir shared a snapshot of her innovative work, then guided us through with wit and charm. 💠 We were captivated by Alison Derbenwick Miller & Lisa Gus. Alison, with parents who taught her ‘Girls can do anything’ has a high-flying career in tech. Lisa, inspired by her mother’s career in technology, is co-founder of pioneering tech business. Alison & Lisa highlighted a key collaboration with Savvitas - a survey to consider what women really do at work - is there a disparity between the genders? If so, how and why? Open to all this autumn, we'd like to hear from everyone in tech, not only women. Be reassured, by using WishKnish Corp. technology, all responses are entirely secure and confidential. 📣 Alison’s call to action is for potential partners and sponsors to join us in this important work; also, for each of us to encourage at least 10 people to take part. More to follow, meanwhile all suggestions are welcome. 💠 Next Fiona Capstick gave a great insight into her tech career, telling us she invites a man to attend each ‘Women in Tech’ event, so they can see how it is to be the only one in the room! Still too often the case, although gender balance is (slowly) improving. 💠 Breaking into discussion rooms, each with a focus on Women in Tech, as this is London Tech Week. Groups considered STEM Education, led by Kaye Nightingale, What Women Do at Work led by Noreen Burroughes Cesareo FRSA, and Government Policy for Female Enterprise, led by Insiyah R.. 💠 Back in the main room, exciting ideas were shared by group chairs, from a focus on enterprise education, to an emphasis on valuing women's contribution in all aspects of work. Details and outcomes to be published in our forthcoming white paper. 💠 Helene Martin Gee and Sue Lawton MBE outlined exciting plans for the 5th #WBWDay 2024 and the #1MBW Movement, with a goal of achieving 'One Million Business Women' by Savvitas 20th anniversary. This year, we have a thought-provoking WBWDay Question: "If you had an extra $1 Million, what would you do for Women in Business?" Feedback was, let's up our game and aim for $10Million! Thanks to the wonderful women who contributed to WBW. Special thanks Antonella Ragona, and international intern project managers Fatimetou Ichidou & Isra Al Yousfi Thank you Runa Magnusdottir Alison Derbenwick Miller Lisa Gus Fiona Capstick Kaye Nightingale Insiyah R.
