On August 2, Coraline’s Curious Cat Trail will open in downtown Portland, featuring thirty larger-than-life cat sculptures, as part of LAIKA’s ongoing celebrations for Coraline’s 15th anniversary. Among this collection of cats is “The Hero Sculpture,” a special collaboration between 9-year-old Rosie Chambers, a patient at OHSU Doernbecher Children’s Hospital, and Katy Hughes, LAIKA’s lead scenic painter. We love a day that’s filled with joy and celebration! On Sunday, more than 100 LAIKAns, family, and friends marched in 2024’s Portland Pride Parade—LAIKA’s third time participating and first year sponsoring. We brought heart-shaped handouts with encouraging messages and rainbow-colored, Oregon-shaped inflatables featuring our films’ main characters.
