In 21 states, at least 50% of all methadone clinics are owned either by private equity firms or by Acadia Healthcare, a publicly traded company founded by private equity firm Waud Capital Partners. 100% of all clinics in Louisiana, Nebraska, New Hampshire, and Montana are owned either by Acadia or by private equity firms. The shift toward private-equity-backed treatment in the U.S. has raised questions about what methadone clinics’ real interests are in the public policy debate. While there's no evidence that for-profit clinics offer lower-quality care, experts say private equity firms are investing with the expectation that methadone clinics will increase in value. More than 70% of payers and providers foresee GenAI making the most significant impact on health outcomes and member experiences according to a survey of executive-level leaders at 350 provider and payer organizations. This anticipation underscores their recognition of GenAI's potential to enhance healthcare delivery and patient experiences. However, despite this acknowledgment, only 20% of payers and providers currently integrate a vision for GenAI into their investment decisions. This suggests that while there's growing awareness of GenAI's potential, a majority of payers and providers have yet to take decisive action. Three years ago a man came to our door asking for medicines for his sick covid19 infected son. He couldn’t afford the cost of the medicines and asked if Dr. Raina Ranney and I could help out. Rather than just give him monetary help, we decided to try something different. A crowd sourcing - robinhood style - initiative. We made a few phone calls to our recovering patients and within a few hours and had enough medicines for his son. That is when the idea hit us. If one residential society can help change one life then imagine what one locality, one city and one country can do. That was the start of #MedsForMore. A citizen led social initiative that lit up across India and helped over 100,000 Covid impacted lives and that continues to help patients with many other diseases today. Three years later, the idea of donating your left over unexpired medicines to someone in need is not alien. National Geographic covered our story to help inspire others to know that “You can be the change you want to see in the World” and that “No idea is too small to help”.
