What do I love French for? Yesterday, we celebrated International Francophonie Day: Journée Internationale de la Francophonie 🔵⚪🔴 I started learning #French by accident. At the beginning of my studies I needed to choose a second foreign language. The obvious choice was German (I had been 'learning' it at school for 6 years), but all German groups turned out to be full! I had no choice but to start my journey with French. Although it was a rocky start, today I can easily say that I love this language. 🔵 Whenever I use French, I talk more vividly. It's full of those short words that don't convey any particular meaning, but rather our emotions. This way, you can create whole sentences that don't contain any particular information! "Bon bah, en fait, du coup... 'fin, grave, quoi !" ⚪ The word "oie" (French for 'goose') contains 3 out of 5 vowels in French. To pronounce it, though, you need to use the two remaining ones: /ua/! You might say it's weird, but it actually makes a lot of sense once you understand the pronunciation rules. It's true, there are lots of them, but at least they exist (as opposed to pronunciation chaos in English). 🔴 Using French brings so much satisfaction and fun. It sounds beautiful, it's perfect for expressing emotions. It is difficult, but it makes you feel great once you finally get things right and start understanding others. #francophonie

It’s International Francophonie day today, 20th March, a day to celebrate the 100 million native speakers of French in 40 countries and territories around the world. Did you know that French is used as the national language of more countries than any other language other than English? To celebrate all things French, here are a few top tips for learning the language! ⭐ Try to link French phrases with a picture or emotion, rather than English words. This will stop you from translating word for word which sometimes doesn’t work well in French!   ⭐ Practise using new language straightaway in real life – this will cement the words into your memory on a deeper level.   ⭐ Listen to French audio of a word being pronounced and record yourself repeating the word – you can find recordings on YouTube. Keep practising over and over until it sounds the same when you listen back.   ⭐ Fake it ‘til you make it – exaggerate your French accent to sound like Inspector Clouseau!  You may feel silly but French really is that different! You’ll soon be sounding much more French and your jaw should be aching from the different muscles you are using! ⭐ And lastly... keep practising every day! It will be worth it! #learnfrench #francophonie #french

Through a comprehensive examination of the Moroccans' attitudes and the benefits of English to the Moroccan educational and economic landscape, the talk sheds light on the opportunities English provides to individuals and to the nation. It also explores the dynamic of learning English informally and discusses the role of the learners' socio-economic factors in widening the inequity of English assets. The talk ends with analysing the relationship between external forces and the language policy orientations as motivating factors for the learning of English in Morocco.
