Did you know that Italy ranks 35th on the ILGA-Europe Rainbow Index? 🌈 With a score of just 25.76%, Italy is significantly below the EU average of 50.61%. This raises important questions about the safety and acceptance of LGBTQ+ individuals in the country. A lot of organisations do great work in Italy like Arcigay but there is so much to be done. The ECI on banning conversion practices has collected 70k signatures in 2 months! The initiative is calling on the European Commission to legislate against conversion practices targeting LGBTQ+ individuals in the EU. Today, on the International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia, and Biphobia (IDAHOTB), we stand together to raise awareness about the ongoing struggles faced by the LGBTQ+ community worldwide. Despite progress, it is disheartening to acknowledge that as of today, 60 UN member states still criminalize consensual same-sex acts by law, and 2 member states do so de facto. This stark reality highlights the persistent need for advocacy, solidarity, and action. On this day, let's reaffirm our commitment to creating a world where everyone can live openly and authentically, free from fear and discrimination. 🌈🌍Today is #IDAHOBIT2024, which raises awareness about the discrimination faced by LGBTQ+ people worldwide. 🌍🏳️🌈 This year's theme, "No one left behind: equality, freedom and justice for all" was decided through extensive consultations with LGBTQIA+ organisations from around the world. This theme will allow for advocacy and celebrations in many forms - be it from human rights defenders, LGBTQIA+ civil society groups, millions of people in our communities, and our allies. This year, the Historical Archives of the European Union (HAUE) is marking #PrideMonth with the publication of the online exhibition ‘LGBTQ+ at Work - Unveiling the European Parliament's Archives and Commitments’. Pride Month, rooted in the Stonewall riots of June 1969 in the United States, is a time of celebration and visibility for the #LGBTQ+ community and is now celebrated around the world. The new online exhibit explores documents from the European Parliament (EP) between 1987 and 2003 relevant to LGBTQ+ rights. It provides insights into some of the inner workings of the Parliament, and illustrates the mechanisms citizens have used to make their voices heard at the European level. More specifically, ‘LGBTQ+ at Work’ spotlights a selection of inquiries during the European Parliament’s ‘Question Time’ that illustrate the ongoing battle against LGBTQ+ #discrimination across member states. The specific examples inform viewers about the different forms of discrimination that LGBTQ+ people faced, and highlight the efforts of several inspiring MEPs and public figures to find a European remedy for this discrimination. Texas (2003), which ruled that states can’t criminalize the private lives of same-sex couples. 2) United States v. Windsor (2013), which ruled that married and same-sex couples have the same rights, benefits, and marriage protections under federal law. 3) Obergefell v.
