I grew up in rural Virginia with family that has been in farming and agriculture for generations. In 2020, I was starting to think about my retirement from the National Guard and doing research for an organization that supports veterans, farmers, and the local community. I wasn’t expecting much, but at the top of my google results was Arcadia Center for Sustainable Food & Agriculture (great job with your #SEO)! It’s not often that you find an organization that aligns to your personal experiences and values in a way that I’ve found with this amazing organization and Pamela Hess. Arcadia's mission is to cultivate vibrant local food systems that prioritize health, equity, and sustainability, from the farm forward. They are delivering on that mission and making an impact here in DC and beyond when their Veteran farmers go back to their local communities across the country. They working to reimagine our food systems so we can meet the needs of our under-resourced communities. This is important work that shapes our #future with #sustainable solutions. I’m sharing this broadly to help them generate the needed funds to support their mission. Every dollar we raise will go toward:  1. growing fresh healthy food for the community (1 million servings plus since 2016!)  2. training military veterans to be farmers (230 from 22 states so far!)  helping build little appetites for fruits and veggies (13,500 children have been to Arcadia at farm camp and field trips since 2011!)  3. leapfrogging the barriers low-income families have to access nutritious foods ($2 million worth of food sold and distributed in under-resourced neighborhoods since 2012. Arcadia's Mobile Markets represent less than 1% of all farmers market sales in DC but complete 45% of all food stamp transactions at farmers markets.) I recently did a radio interview and I was asked what have nurseries got to do with climate change. I explained that the decisions we make regarding the three pillars of sustainibaility ( economic, social and environmental) are critical to how we look after the planet which will be inherited by our youngest citizens; our babies! At LEYF our sustainability strategy is hooked around the three pillars and how we lead, our operations and social pedagogy. Using Green Bottoms Ltd is one way of making sustainable decisions, that will go some way to reduce the huge nappy landfill. A baby gets through 4000-6000 nappies by the time they are potty trained and every year, 167 billion nappies are produced using 248.5m barrels of crude oil. They are hard to recycle because of the mix of materials and human waste, so the vast majority end up in landfill and take 100 years to degrade. Therefore biodegradable nappies that are recycled to build roads is the way to go. Every decision you make is a positive step, so think about partnerships that help reduce waste,

Love, love, love this campaign from Lidl 👇🏻 In celebration of World Bee Day, Lidl has put together this brilliant initiative, which helps support pollinators. Here's what they've done: 1. They've launched these new Bee'rs (Free bottles of syrup, which can be put down to help revive exhausted bees). 2. They've donated £10K to the British Bee Charity, to provide learning materials to 500 schools, educating them on the importance of bees and bio-diversity. 3. They've set up a simple landing page, with tips on how you can help bees and other pollinators. A great campaign for a great cause.

As 2023 comes to a close, Civiltech is wrapping up 35 Signs of Kindness. This year-long initiative allowed us to give back in meaningful ways, both as a company and as individuals. 35 Signs of Kindness kicked off on February 17 – National Random Acts of Kindness Day, as a way to recognize and celebrate Civiltech’s 35th anniversary year. The activities were divided into three buckets – individual volunteering, individual donations, and Civiltech corporate charitable donations. Goals included impacting 35 different organizations with staff individual volunteer activities and raising a minimum of $3500 in employee individual donations. A brief word about BREADCOIN. Have you heard of these guys? A non-profit supporting food availability by circulating actual coins valued at $2.50 to buy food at participating locations. The Overlea Farmers Market, where I volunteer every other Saturday (just to keep you on your toes), we spread around a lot of "free" money which buoyed our vendors and made artisanal bread, preserves, fresh vegetables and even fish sandwiches go home with people regardless of their situation. But the coins aren't really free. They are directly funded by donations from supporters of Breadcoin's nonprofit mission to go directly to facilitating food access for everyone. Check them out. A low-overhead non-profit focused on getting food into peoples mouths and removing the social stigma. I am not food insecure. Especially after the cheddar sage biscuits I bought with Breadcoin. Ugh. I shouldn't have mentioned those. Now I want one. Breadcoin is actively recruiting partners and donors to the cause. Currently operating in Maryland, DC, Virginia and Pennsylvania. And Florida? Yup. Tampa/St. Pete are down with the Breadcoin, too.

When I joined Grace & Green in 2022 as Head of Growth, my very first presentation to the Board was about how we took what had been created in Period Dignity and use this to have a much wider impact on both the business and the world of work. How would we make Period Dignity the market leader (with very little money to spend to do so)? I don't have enough space in this post to work through exactly what I set out in that meeting, however it boiled down to: ✌ Understanding the impact we want to have: It's always been about more than supplying products - Education is woven into the threads of Period Dignity. To achieve period dignity we need access to information, availability of products and acceptance within workplace culture - we designed our offering and continue to develop everything we do around these pillars. This was summed up perfectly by a client (John) who said "Grace & Green don't just supply a product, they create a CULTURE". Exactly John. ✌ Remember who we are and why we are doing it: Unsurprisingly, the workplace space has and is becoming more competitive. This is excellent news, as more businesses embrace free period care as a basic right, and especially comforting how many are choosing a more sustainable providers. As now Chief Commercial Officer, it's also mildly stressful (mildly 🙃 ). However, dignity continues to be about more than avoiding getting caught short, it's about embracing inclusivity and supporting our Members to deliver dignity for all, no matter of age, gender identity, or how they experience their period. There's still a long way to go, and we've got SO much more coming here... ✌ Treat every customer like they are absolutely making our day. This is perhaps a small business mindset, or when many of the team have done almost every job in the company. We all remember the THRILL of winning our first big contract, the DELIGHT of walking into a shop and seeing our products on shelf, or randomly walking into the bathroom BEAMING seeing our products. We don't take for granted the fact we get to be in people's everyday. (For me this has never worn off, my heart still skips a little when I process an order, receive a tender award notice, or see a customer talking about us on socials.) Particularly grateful for our team for supporting our phenomenal YOY 120% growth, for challenging, pushing our vision and positioning, and for being excellent. I'm incredibly proud of what we and our members are doing to drive inclusivity, awareness and dignity within their workplaces and educational establishments.
