Across the landscape, we’re continuing to see value-creation opportunities emerge from several key themes, including supply chain disruptions, labor challenges, technology advancement, and electric vehicle adoption. 📈 I am happy to share with you our company's first-half results and revised outlook for fiscal year 2023, as announced earlier today during the press conference, held by our CEO Makoto Uchida. On a global scale, we've achieved some remarkable milestones. Our consolidated net revenue has grown by 30% to 6.06 trillion yen, with operating profit rising by 115% to 336.7 billion yen. Kudos to all our teams around the Globe, whose dedication has steered us to an operating profit margin of 5.6% and net income reaching 296.2 billion yen. In Europe, both retail sales and production volume have risen by 19.3% and 19.4%, respectively. Our electrified lineup has played a significant role in this success, boosting our electrification ratio by 25 points to an impressive 37%. I was initially extremely skeptical when nearly all major carmakers and some governments announced their plans to go all-in on electric vehicles. I thought the adoption targets were overly optimistic, especially without a substantial investment in the infrastructure around EVs. Therefore, I was not surprised when General Motors recently announced their decision to temporarily slow down CapEx on EVs and instead embark on a massive share buyback program. As clearly depicted in the chart below, sales of EVs in America have significantly declined since 2022. In my opinion, plug-in hybrids are the best option at present, at least until we make the necessary substantial investments in the EV infrastructure to move forward confidently. Another failing attempt financially by this administration to deliver on its "Green Initiative Narrative." History shows that whatever this man has gotten behind over his 50+ yrs in politics, tends to be a failure more than a success. It may be time to hold some of the "leaders" of these large corporations financially accountable for taking "billions" of taxpayer money to appease politicians, who support consumer products when those corporation's own strategic marketing shows won't be competitively priced without ongoing major gov't subsidies. Open - free markets will always be tied to consumer demand/wants/needs and financial status as long as the U.S. can keep the gov't consumer markets overreach in check. It may be time for this Congress to make this right financially, by defunding as much of the Green agenda as possible and let the markets drive winners & losers. This would deliver approx. $1 trillion+ annual spending reduction and truly aid in the area of much needed Federal deficit spending cuts!
