Did you know that #WorldVision supports around 180,000 Community Health Workers (#CHWs) and has been supporting immunization in several countries with both private and public funds? This year marks the 50th year of #immunization programs. Most of us take these programs for granted, but it hasn't always been this way. Immunization is one of the most cost-effective health interventions, saving millions of lives each year. This week, World Vision and its partners are organizing side events at the World Health Assembly (#WHA) to bring field implementers, including community health workers, together to brainstorm solutions for immunization and strategies to reach zero-dose children. We are hosting a roundtable on Friday, May 31, 2024, with the International Rescue Committee (#IRC), #VillageReach, #WHO and #GAVI on "The Role of Community Health Workers in Immunization Programming." I'm pleased to share this online playbook offering CARE's lessons learned and best practices gained through three years of experimentation with how social media could be used to drive positive public health outcomes. Today marks 3 years since the first COVID-19 vaccine was administered in the United States. Since then, through the power of partnering with community, NIH CEAL Regional Teams have administered over 300k COVID-19 vaccines in the nation’s hardest-hit communities. 🌌Can we navigate the uncharted territories of civic challenges and community aspirations?🌌 Amid the heightened focus on evicting migrants from city shelters, a measles outbreak has emerged, introducing complexities to Mayor Johnson's plan to expel these individuals. But in response, city health officials have administered vaccinations to over 900 shelter residents and placed them under a 21-day quarantine period. The confirmed cases of measles have risen to five in Chicago, with additional infections detected at a migrant shelter in the Pilsen neighborhood. So, the situation has prompted the involvement of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to help contain the outbreak amidst the looming eviction deadline set by Mayor Johnson. Furthermore, uncertainties persist regarding Mayor Johnson's course of action as his 60-day limit on migrant shelter stays is set to take effect, impacting over 5,600 individuals initially targeted for eviction. But in parallel developments, discussions have been sparked regarding the consideration of the old Michael Reese Hospital site for a new stadium, suggested by Friends of the Parks to avoid potential legal challenges. This recommendation has emerged as an alternative to the proposed construction of a new stadium by the Chicago Bears near Soldier Field. So, the delineation between public ownership and private enterprise in stadium construction has raised legal concerns and echoes previous disputes over land use in the area. 🌟 Making a Difference for Homeless Individuals: My Commitment to Fight 🌟 Reading a powerful article on the struggles faced by homeless individuals after leaving hospitals in San Diego has deeply moved me. It has strengthened my resolve to fight for those who have little to no voice. People like Edward, CeCe Hughes, and George Moore deserve better, and I'm personally dedicated to enhancing our strategies at Harbor Light. Medical Respite programs are an essential component of the continuum of care for vulnerable people. They bridge the gap between hospital and home, providing hospitals a safe discharge option and allowing patients a safe space to rest, recuperate, and work on next steps to achieve housing and health stability. As we navigate this journey, I invite you to join me in advocating for real change. In 2023,the rights of millions of children to life and safety, health care, adequate nutrition, education, safe water and protection from harm and exploitation came under grave threat because of conflicts, violence, climate-induced emergencies and natural disasters. Despite the challenges, UNICEF, with the support of humanitarian funding, was able to secure clean water and sanitation for 42.4 million people, deliver measles vaccinations for 32.4 million children aged 6 months to 15 years, provide access to education for 17.7 million children and adolescents and community-based mental health and psychosocial support services for 13.1 million children.
