The United States is building “a new and stronger network of partnerships” in the Pacific, something “unique” to the region, Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin said here this morning. “Today we are witnessing a new convergence around nearly all aspects of security in the Indo-Pacific. This new convergence is producing a stronger, more recent, more capable network of partnerships,” Austin said in his opening address for the Shangri La Dialogue. “You know, in the past our experts would talk about a hub and spokes model for Indo-Pacific security. Today, we’re seeing something quite different. This new convergence is not a single alliance or coalition, but instead something unique to the Indo-Pacific, a set of overlapping and complementary initiatives and institutions propelled by a shared vision and a shared sense of mutual obligation.” Note: IPTO (the Indo-Pacific Treaty Organization)?!? Interestingly, multiple NATO members would certainly be “IPTO” members due to their Indo-Pacific territories

THE GOP’S NATSEC VISION: The Republican National Committee approved this year’s GOP platform, and there are a lot of interesting details to note. The party platform says that the U.S. will pursue a foreign policy of “peace through strength,” echoing messaging from Trump allies like ROBERT O’BRIEN. The document pledges support for Israel and partners in the Indo-Pacific. It also calls for military modernization, securing the border, reviving the industrial base and protecting critical infrastructure from cyberattacks. Expect a tough line on NATO. In a thinly veiled swipe at NATO member states that have yet to meet defense spending targets, the platform says that Republicans will strengthen alliances by “ensuring that our Allies must meet their obligations to invest in our Common Defense and by restoring peace in Europe

🚀 Boosting Our Defense! The #EU has recognized the need to strengthen its military. It's a bit late and small budget, but the plan is finally in motion! Now, let's act quickly - this must not stay on paper only! ⚠ The #EuropeanCommission and the High Representative have unveiled the first-ever European Defence Industrial Strategy (#EDIS). It proposes new actions to enhance the competitiveness and preparedness of the EU's defence industry. 🔥 The Strategy sets out a clear vision for achieving defence industrial readiness in the EU, introducing a legislative proposal for a European Defence Industry Programme (#EDIP) and measures for the timely availability of defence products. ➕ The EDIS also encourages deeper ties with Ukraine, increased collaboration with NATO, and outlines goals for EU member states, including procuring at least 40% of defence equipment collaboratively by 2030. 💶 It also proposes the mobilisation of €1.5 billion of the EU budget for 2025-2027 to enhance the competitiveness of the European Defence Technological and Industrial Base (#EDTIB).
