The programming lineup at Institutional Investor RPAs Southeast 2024 was fantastic as always, but I so very much appreciated the session on Actionable DEI. Thank you Kim Cochrane, QPA, TGPC , Francesca Federico, C(k)P® AIF® CPFA® , Stephen M. Welch, CRPC® CRPS® QPFC® FiWD and Rachael Conroy, AIF® for your time and experience. A few of my takeaways- (1) Think about DEI more broadly- everyone has a background story. (2) How can you accommodate your employees? Personal comfort and safety can be overlooked. Be considerate. (3) Never make assumptions. Keep the dialogue open. (4) Mentorship and sponsorship are two different things. How can you level others up? (5) BE CONSIDERATE.

As we launch this year’s reverse Pitch Competition, let’s once again celebrate last year’s second-place winners, the Berkeley Institute!   The competition offered the three following challenges: 1.          How can we make it easier for the everyday traveler on Bermuda’s roads to know which bus route to take and when? 2.          How can we implement a system that allows fans to turn on and off depending on a room’s temperature to keep the indoor space cool? 3.          How can everyday people mine cryptocurrencies without an expensive, energy-inefficient setup?   The Berkeley Institute selected the second challenge, as it resonated with their experience of living in Bermuda, where warm temperatures persist. They believed that addressing this challenge would be most beneficial for their community.   Needless to say, their proposed solution impressed the Reverse Pitch Judging panel!

It took me a lot of courage to film this. Not because I am camera shy, but because I am not the most comfortable talking about myself. Growing up valuing humility, I never really practised reflecting and verbalizing my strengths to others. I've always believed in letting my work speak for itself. However, I have been trying to change this mindset lately. Over the past 5 months, while juggling four different group projects simultaneously, the significance of playing to my strengths became very clear. More so, I have realised how important it is to clearly communicate these strengths to team members early on for a high-functioning team. Contrary to what I believed, pitching is more than just self-promotion or a skill for an interview. It's about connecting, building trust, and finding synergies with others. It's about showcasing how I can add value, solve problems, deepen relationships, and drive growth. As a personal milestone, I'm quite proud to share that I've been selected as one of the top 7 finalists for the Pitch Perfect competition.
