Coach to Leaders and Teams | Facilitator | Speaker | Author: Coach Yourself Confident (Amazon bestseller)
When Andy Brown invited me onto his podcast, we covered the territory that connects Andy's book 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘌𝘮𝘰𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘢𝘭 𝘖𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘥𝘳𝘢𝘧𝘵 and my book 𝘊𝘰𝘢𝘤𝘩 𝘠𝘰𝘶𝘳𝘴𝘦𝘭𝘧 𝘊𝘰𝘯𝘧𝘪𝘥𝘦𝘯𝘵. This clip is from the part of the conversation when we talked about procrastination. Re-listening to it made me reach for my copy of Coach Yourself Confident to take a look at what I wrote about procrastination. From page 49-50... "Procrastination is the enemy of pace and leads to missed opportunities. It can also come with a big helping of anxiety and guilt: 𝘐 𝘬𝘯𝘰𝘸 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘯𝘦𝘦𝘥𝘴 𝘥𝘰𝘪𝘯𝘨, 𝘐’𝘮 𝘱𝘶𝘵𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘪𝘵 𝘰𝘧𝘧, 𝘮𝘺 𝘮𝘢𝘯𝘢𝘨𝘦𝘳 𝘸𝘪𝘭𝘭 𝘣𝘦 𝘤𝘩𝘢𝘴𝘪𝘯𝘨, 𝘐 𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘺 𝘴𝘩𝘰𝘶𝘭𝘥 𝘣𝘦 𝘨𝘦𝘵𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘥𝘰𝘯𝘦. Self-doubt triggered procrastination comes in a few different flavours: 𝙄 𝙙𝙤𝙣’𝙩 𝙚𝙫𝙚𝙣 𝙠𝙣𝙤𝙬 𝙬𝙝𝙚𝙧𝙚 𝙩𝙤 𝙨𝙩𝙖𝙧𝙩 – just thinking about the task evokes a mild sense of panic. It’s impossible to access our rational thinking and problem solving capabilities because they are hidden behind the big blocker in our minds: 𝘐 𝘤𝘢𝘯𝘯𝘰𝘵 𝘥𝘰 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘴! 𝘐 𝘤𝘢𝘯𝘯𝘰𝘵 𝘥𝘰 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘴! 𝙄 𝙘𝙖𝙣’𝙩 𝙜𝙚𝙩 𝙞𝙩 𝙬𝙧𝙤𝙣𝙜 – we can’t bear the idea of failure and we postpone the possibility of failure by not getting started. We can’t fail if we don’t do it at all. 𝙄𝙩 𝙢𝙪𝙨𝙩 𝙗𝙚 𝙥𝙚𝙧𝙛𝙚𝙘𝙩 – we set ourselves an intimidatingly high standard which (unsurprisingly) feels impossible. We’re not quite ready to deliver perfection, so we’ll just do something else before we start, perhaps a little more research will help me to do a better job?" It's number 2 and 3 that I recognise in myself. How about you? Any procrastination habits that you're willing to admit to...? (A book extract 𝗔𝗡𝗗 a podcast link in the same post? You're welcome 😊) 🌱 𝘐'𝘮 𝘑𝘶𝘭𝘪𝘦, 𝘤𝘰𝘢𝘤𝘩 𝘵𝘰 𝘭𝘦𝘢𝘥𝘦𝘳𝘴 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘵𝘦𝘢𝘮𝘴 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘤𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘵𝘰𝘳 𝘰𝘧 𝘭𝘦𝘢𝘥𝘦𝘳𝘴𝘩𝘪𝘱 𝘱𝘳𝘰𝘨𝘳𝘢𝘮𝘮𝘦𝘴 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘥𝘳𝘪𝘷𝘦 𝘴𝘶𝘴𝘵𝘢𝘪𝘯𝘢𝘣𝘭𝘦 𝘤𝘩𝘢𝘯𝘨𝘦. 𝘔𝘺 𝘥𝘦𝘣𝘶𝘵 𝘣𝘰𝘰𝘬 𝘊𝘰𝘢𝘤𝘩 𝘠𝘰𝘶𝘳𝘴𝘦𝘭𝘧 𝘊𝘰𝘯𝘧𝘪𝘥𝘦𝘯𝘵 𝘪𝘴 𝘰𝘶𝘵 𝘯𝘰𝘸.
