WorkTok is a hashtag of note these days. Progressive employers are using it to woo and court young professionals into jobs via TikTok. Scroll the app, and you’ll likely see job openings with a request for a TikTok video “application.” Job seekers are asked to explain why they should get the job on video, rather than through a traditional resume portal. This format brings out personality, and for people who are naturally charming and photogenic, it works well. But more introverted or camera-shy folks are at a definite disadvantage. And if the role itself does not require proven, camera-worthy charisma, as a President and CEO, I question the format at times. Nevertheless, this is the world we are now living in! If you have any doubts, consider that only 15% of the Gen Z crowd turn to Google as their primary search mechanism. The rest are going straight to #TikTok to find out what’s going on in the world of work and play!
