Family over everything. When we honor everyone in our community, we all reap the benefits. Black liberation is dependent upon disrupting transmisogynoir and anti-Black racism that doesn't just separate our people, but takes the lives of those we love. We need to create protected spaces within Black community that talk about the violence that infiltrates all of our lives, and strategizing to create solutions to end it. Family has always been beyond blood—when we lean into that truth, we open ourselves up to stronger relationships that center community care and showing up for one another. This PSA speaks to the lived experiences of Black trans people—and specifically Black trans femmes—both capturing the inherent violence of their daily lives and the refuge they need with their beloved families to survive. Lavender Rights Project asks that all of us start working together, taking care of each other, and having open conversations about our collective futures. Together, we can protect our families and envision a reality where everyone belongs and is loved. Learn more about how you can get involved at yourtransfamily.org.

Today, we honor Juneteenth, a day that marks the end of slavery in the United States and celebrates freedom and resilience. This day is a powerful reminder of the progress we've made and the work that still lies ahead. As we celebrate, let's recommit ourselves to the pursuit of equity and justice for all. True freedom means dismantling systemic racism, promoting equal opportunities, and ensuring that everyone, regardless of their background, can thrive. Let's lift up Black voices, support Black-owned businesses, and educate ourselves about the history and contributions of the Black community. Together, we can create a future where freedom, justice, and equality are not just ideals, but realities for everyone. Let's continue to strive for a world where justice and equity prevail. 🌍❤️🖤💚 #Juneteenth #EquityAndJustice #FreedomDay #BlackHistory #CelebrateFreedo

The 519 Black Collective commemorates Juneteenth, in remembrance of June 19, 1865, when the last enslaved folks in the US learned of their newfound freedom following the enforcement of the Emancipation Proclamation. While this day is a pivotal moment in American history, it is just as personal to us and to other Black and African communities in Canada. We are reminded of this country’s own legacy of slavery that spanned over 200 years. As people historically impacted by slavery, descendants and otherwise, we continue to feel the real effects of slavery today. It's important to confront and acknowledge this painful part of Canadian history if we seek to actively confront and dismantle anti-Black racism in our society today. Our communities continue to face systemic inequities and injustices - especially when it comes to interacting with the police, justice systems, housing, and employment. Through our work as a Collective, we will continue to fight for equity and justice for Black, African, Indigenous, racialized, and all other marginalized communities. We take pride in and celebrate the beautiful intersection of our Black identity with Indigenous and European cultures in the Americas. We honour our hard-won freedoms, knowing that our freedom lies in our existence, in being our full queer selves, in grieving and healing together, and in our communal resilience. Juneteenth today, Juneteenth every day.

Happy Juneteenth! Social media is not enough, and one day is not enough. Every day, we have a responsibility to step aside and let Black women lead while vocally opposing the systems of oppression and racism active in our communities. If you’re off today and you’re white- the LEAST you can do is acknowledge Juneteenth. Go to a Juneteenth celebration. Educate yourself. Support Black owned businesses. Support Black led nonprofits and grassroots organizations doing the work. Check your privilege. Examine the biases that exist in ALL of us. Step aside.
Happy Juneteenth! Today, we acknowledge our abominable history, celebrate strides made, and recommit to actively combatting racism and the disproportionate harm faced by Black communities, especially Black women. Black women are more likely than women of other racial and ethnic groups to be murdered by their intimate partners. They face unique barriers rooted in the sociohistorical context that can inhibit them from getting the help they need to escape abuse safely. As Audre Lorde said, "I am not free while any woman is unfree, even when her shackles are very different from my own." Social media is not enough, and one day is not enough. Every day, we have a responsibility to step aside and let Black women lead while vocally opposing the systems of oppression and racism active in our communities.

For those of you searching for ways to express solidarity against the ongoing attacks on funds created for the express purpose of leveling the very inequitable funding landscape the Black Innovation Alliance is running a Clapback campaign collecting signatures in support of 5 key realities all of us should be clear on. 1. We do not live in a color-blind, race-neutral society. 2. The legacy of slavery, Jim Crow, and segregation lives on. 3. While we've come a long way, we've got a long way to go. 4. Racial equity is necessary in order for racial equality to be realized. 5. We won't stop until equal opportunity is achieved. Sign their pledge here: https://lnkd.in/g5Gp3sNf
