Hey friends, I'm looking for suggestions. My wife uses a Surface Pro 3 and I use a 2018 HP. We're looking to upgrade her computer soon. I've heard that the Lenovo X1 Carbon could be up to the task, but the great experience I had with a T510 that lasted forever was ruined by her 2018 Lenovo Ideapad that has needed constant maintenance, still works but requires repairs that local shop said is 'too expensive to repair'. The computer starts and works , but will commit Seppuku anytime you try to open it or turn it on. What would be your long-haul 7-12 year machine for office and design work?
The Framework Laptop 13 looks like it could really win me over considering how easy it is to maintain with user-serviceable parts and the Dell XPS Dev series would be my next visit. I think I'm more likely to get that for myself next year when I replace my 2018 HP when I'm considering higher end editing machines. Right now, we're just looking for the next replacement after a minor scare on the weekend where bitlocker forced my wife out of her operating system even though she says she never turned it on. It's possible her employment activated it on her Microsoft account she was signed into, but we're just looking for some hardware where Arch, Manjaro 18, Ubuntu before the big kernel change, or a relatively recent version of Mint would run pretty stably without glitches. Touchscreen is a great feature, but frankly a cheap wireless tablet gets around the need. Suggestions?
