I resonate deeply with your message here, PM Wong. I imagine for this to take root, certain common values need to be agreed upon: 1) Some of the values is rooted in our pledge: "one united people", "regardless of race, language or religion", "build a democratic society", "justice and equality" for the purpose of "happiness, prosperity and progress" for the nation's people (the last is how I interpret it.) 2) With the assumption that We are trying to do the best for ourselves and our families by doing to the best of our abilities the best for our organisation's stakeholders 3) with an openness to listen from each other's perspectives and see if we can co-create a solution together
Free education for Citizens Free Medical for Citizens Drive a stake in the heart of profiteering pharma. One small example. 1000 for two part MRI In Singapore this is in Dollars that is after "subsidies" In Johor Bahru Private Hospital this is full cost in RM Without subsidies. This happened a few years back When I asked MOH I was told hospitals are free to charge what they require. Be creative. We have excellent relations with Johor. Build a hospital there build an infrastructure that reduces the cost for Citizens. Build an infrastructure from supply to finished products for medical. We have the ability. Why not? It's mad.
You have to learn from failed examples of other societies where ' How to you help each other' failed. Leaders are always worried about less welloffs. 'Mohandas Gandhi' called head of Tata & 'Birla' post Indpendence in India & ask them to convert their profitable companies in 'cooperative societies' business model. It was popular business model in India, for example Verghese Kurien built # Amul brand effecting 'White Revolution' of milk production & distribution of processed products benefiting farmers by sharing profits, much like #fonterra has achieved in New Zealand. No progress on Mohandas Gandhi's proposal by Tata/Birla,it was turned down by Capitalist owners. Would have meant sharing 100% profits with employees, suppliers. It was too good a suggestion to implement, would have solved many problems of social mobility plagued by Today's India.

Small businesses are the eyes and ears of our communities, acting as vital nodes that connect us, foster relationships, and drive local economies. Their unique character and personal touch contribute to the diverse cultural tapestry of Singapore. To ensure small businesses in Singapore flourish, we need to implement supportive policies that provide access to funding, reduce bureaucratic hurdles, and offer training and development programs. By doing so, we create a robust ecosystem where entrepreneurs can innovate and grow, contributing to a dynamic and inclusive economy. Together, we can build a future where success is measured by the well-being and prosperity of all members of our society.
Singapore is too much brains and too little heart. Lawrence Wong - please balance this out - be a little soft with the poor, do not subsribe to extremist Confucian values.
Like this. 👍 A Singapore where everyone is valued for who he or she is resonates. Think for this to happen, the subtle and in-build discriminations need to be re-wired in the people over time.
Eversince, I came to love Singapore because of discipline and convenience. I never fear walking around with a mobile phone on my hand. I also got inspired with the urban planning and accessibility where young and old have equal share of experiencing the so called LIFE. And here in Singapore technical knowledge can be expounded... ideas and talent can be useful.
Thank you for your frank and sincere sharing about your singapore dream . Me too have a Malaysian dream ! I also hope and wish that our people have a similar Malaysian dream ! As neigbours - we were very closed once . We can be closer I hope. If both our nations can muscle all our people to focus on our One common market area or place ! for eg Johor and Sungapore free trade zone , I foresee a great potential for both of our nations ! Lets make it happen like how our founding fathers wanted it in the initial formulation !

3wI love the definition that success is about helping each other to do well collectively. This explains why I started giving.sg back in 2015 - to enable everyone in Singapore to live a meaningful life (ie best version of themselves) through giving. My design was inspired by this quote by Viktor Frankl - “For success, like happiness, cannot be pursued; it must ensue, and it only does so as the unintended side-effect of one's personal dedication to a cause greater than oneself or as the by-product of one's surrender to a person other than oneself.”
