Youth ministry programs can’t change how busy young people are, but they can shift their offerings to align with young people’s wants and needs. We surveyed more than 1,200 young people who participate in Christian organizations and found that a little over half report they “often” or “always” value personal transformation and purpose finding. Youths are the only future of our planet after all. They already have a voice and they have a lot to say. They don't need adults to give them a voice, but they need adults to offer opportunities for participation, relevant choices, and appropriate guidance. When adults provide meaningful support, provide growing challenges, roles and responsibilities, youth can develop the skills they need to become independent, engaged and empowered citizens. August 12 marks the annual celebration of International Youth Day as an awareness day, designated by the United Nations (UN). The day emphasizes the rights of young people to have full access to education, healthcare, employment, monetary services and complete participation in public life. This day also recognises and celebrates the contributions of young volunteers and activists who are pushing for positive change around the world as youngsters serve as catalysts for peace and prosperity, not only in their local communities but on the global stage. This year's chosen theme is "Actions for peace: Our ambition for the #GlobalGoals". "Peace is needed today more than ever. War and conflict are unleashing devastation, poverty, and hunger, and driving tens of millions of people from their homes. Climate chaos is all around. And even peaceful countries are gripped by gaping inequalities and political polarization." - United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres Peace Education is an integral part of Montessori education and is defined as the process of acquiring the values, the knowledge, and developing attitudes, skills, and behaviors to live in harmony with oneself, others, and with the natural environment. Yesterday, the World Children's Day was celebrated. It's a moment to reflect on the importance of ensuring a safe, loving, and stable environment for all children around the world. Childhood is a crucial stage in human development; therefore, we should be creating a world where they can grow free from violence, discrimination, and inequalities. Today holds extraordinary importance. In the midst of challenges, thousands of children find themselves caught in the turmoil of conflict, irrespective of the side they're on. Yet, let us remain Diligent in our commitment to alleviating their suffering. The BRIDGE culture and peace project was purposely designed to complement the ACCESS multi-sectoral humanitarian and anticipatory action/disaster preparedness project, to operationalise the humanitarian-peacebuilding nexus. BRIDGE is funded by EU INTPA and ACCESS by EU ECHO. While still in the early stages of linkage-building in the context of conflict intersecting with climate and environmental and other shocks in Mindanao, Philippines, the complementation is already yielding very important outcomes.
