One of the things I like about the #gitlab platform is that it allows me to balance #sdlc #governance and #engineering #enablement better than other platforms. With its pipeline policies I can “trust” teams to build what they need as I know my controls are included. I can also verify via automated reporting. Something I will now always look for as a positive indicator of a good company culture: oppenness to learning new things not directly inside of one's job description. Since I started at GitLab, I have had several meetings with people who don't know how to use a tool [Tableau] that I know how to use well. Something would come up and I would offer "hey, to get this job done today I can help you with this, but if you want to sync, I can walk you through how I do it so you can learn too". Answer's been yes every time & we set up the sync soon (it wasn't an empty "yeah I would like to some day!" type thing). You know who doesn't have the time to be curious? People who are over worked, and under supported. Right now is the first time I have ever worked somewhere that people had the support and energy to be able to learn, and it shows. We are ALL better for it. But also, I think that it is a testament to the type of person that GitLab hires as an intentional choice. Now that I have experienced working somewhere that prioritizes curiouristy and learning, I know what it looks like. And I know what to look for! Also, shout out to Jon Hackamack for joining our team in the Sales org! I am so glad you get to come join the fun! P.s. For those who do not know, sync means "synchronous meeting", which is over Zoom for us. As opposed to the GitLab's default - asynchronous (like over Slack).

I'm delighted that GitLab's 2024 global DevSecOps Report shone a light on my favourite topic of Developer Onboarding. 'Time to first commit' is an often underrated metric, in my opinion- organisations that have automated where they can, have a collaborative culture, have good documentation practises and a transparent DevSecOps platform rather than a sprawling toolchain are going to show up well in this metric.
