In an exclusive interview (https://lnkd.in/eVFze84n) with Bart Joppe, Baker Hughes underscores the critical need to extract more from mature oil and gas assets. Let’s explore why this direction matters and how it impacts today’s energy markets: 1. 𝐌𝐚𝐱𝐢𝐦𝐢𝐳𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐄𝐱𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐜𝐞𝐬: • 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐮𝐬 𝐐𝐮𝐨: Abandoning mature wells prematurely can be costly. Baker Hughes suggests leveraging cutting-edge technologies to extend the life of these assets. • 𝐇𝐲𝐝𝐫𝐨𝐜𝐚𝐫𝐛𝐨𝐧 𝐑𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐲: By introducing Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOC) methods and facility management innovations, operators can significantly improve hydrocarbon recovery rates. This supports better utilization of existing facilities and infrastructure. 2. 𝐒𝐮𝐫𝐟𝐚𝐜𝐞 𝐌𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐢𝐩𝐡𝐚𝐬𝐞 𝐏𝐮𝐦𝐩𝐢𝐧𝐠, 𝐌𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐢𝐩𝐡𝐚𝐬𝐞 𝐆𝐚𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐌𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐢𝐩𝐡𝐚𝐬𝐞 𝐁𝐨𝐨𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠: • 𝐓𝐢𝐦𝐞𝐝 𝐓𝐰𝐢𝐧 𝐒𝐜𝐫𝐞𝐰 𝐏𝐮𝐦𝐩𝐬: Surface multiphase pumping technology, using timed twin screw pumps, allows for lower gathering and wellhead pressure. This results in better well inflow and improved working conditions for downhole pumps and plungers. • 𝐑𝐞𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐆𝐇𝐆 𝐄𝐦𝐢𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬: Multiphase gathering and boosting simplifies facility and process equipment, contributing to overall lower greenhouse gas emissions by eliminating flaring and venting. Baker Hughes’ recommendation of extracting value from mature assets aligns with the industry’s drive toward sustainability and efficiency. By embracing new advanced solutions, we can optimize production while minimizing environmental impact. Multiphase pumps are increasingly being used to complement conventional artificial lift systems, reducing the production footprint and environmental impact by combining the transport of oil and gas in a single multiphase pipeline to a central processing facility. In tight shale production, the rapid decline of natural reservoir pressure and increased associated gas production require innovative solutions to justify rising drilling, fracking, and completion costs. To maximize ultimate recovery and minimize hydrocarbon loss, a flexible multiphase pumping system is essential for managing low reservoir pressures. Additionally, both legislation and public opinion in many regions demand reduced environmental impact from oil production, including decreased flaring and venting. Faced with these challenges, operators may find screw pump technology to be the optimal solution. Twin-screw multiphase pumps maintain nearly constant flow at a set speed, regardless of gathering system backpressure. Adjusting the pump speed allows for variation in flow rate, thereby controlling pump inlet and gathering pressure. Lowering the pressure can help clear pipelines prone to hydrate blockages and revive liquid-logged wells. This technology also mitigates paraffin build-up and emulsions, reducing the need for chemical injections and well treatments. With low internal velocity, these pumps limit shearing and prevent exacerbation of oil/water emulsions, simplifying downstream treatment. Modern onshore and offshore multiphase pumps can deliver flow rates of up to 450,000 barrels per day (bpd) of total inlet flow (oil, water, and gas) with pressure boosts of up to 1500 psi. The industry, shifting towards new deepwater development and longer tie-backs, now recognizes the need for subsea multiphase pumps capable of handling flows up to 600,000 bpd and differential pressures exceeding 2500 psi. Longer step-out distances also necessitate higher voltage power transmission, subsea power distribution, transformers, and the development of variable frequency drives (VFD). Onshore, multiphase pump installations are growing as operators aim to centralize processing and production, cutting operational expenses (OPEX) and meeting stricter emission control regulations. In shale and tight formation production, operators are exploring pipeline transportation of oil and gas instead of using trucks and rail tankers. Multiphase flow lines offer significant cost savings and reduce environmental impact. Moreover, associated gas, often considered a troublesome byproduct, can be efficiently transported for use through these multiphase flow lines. #oilandgas, #multiphase, #flowcontrol, Henry James Oil and Gas

Six months into the alliance between pumping giants SPP and Rodelta, it’s encouraging to see the oil, gas and offshore media recognise the benefits of our API compliant pumps for severe duty, safety critical applications. In Oil & Gas News and Hydrocarbon Engineering, SPP-Rodelta’s process & chemical solutions expert, Robbie Graham, explains how the API 610 standard is a watchword for safe pumping operations in the petroleum, petrochemical and natural gas industries – where any spark could be catastrophic. · https://lnkd.in/dVxUkCMs · https://lnkd.in/eN4aCqS6 SPP-Rodelta’s range of API 610 overhung (‘OH’) pumps are used in a wide range of applications, both offshore and onshore. These include crude oil export, process transfer, cooling water and booster pump applications – as well as more specific onshore applications like flare KOD pumps, reflux and oil recovery pumps. In addition to traditional ‘OH2’ centreline pumps, SPP-Rodelta’s API portfolio includes close coupled inline ‘OH5’ pumps. These provide improved energy efficiency, reduced weights and smaller footprints; with more user-friendly installation and maintenance than conventional alternatives. If you want to benefit from these advantages, or you just need guidance on pump selection, come and talk to Robbie and our partners from @Fuglesangs on stand 5100, hall 5 at Offshore North Sea, 26-29 August, Stavanger. https://lnkd.in/e9pEjcSE https://lnkd.in/e6AWejPQ #spppumps #rodelta_pumps #fuglesangs #engineering #manufacturing #pumps #sustainability #energy #oilandgas #petrochemicals #API610 #biofuels #hydrogen #carboncapture
