Inertia traps. They’re a tricky team dynamic that can spring up and make things feel out of balance. An Inertia Trap is teams/organizations that are stuck, often without knowing it. I call it the “inertia” trap because it captures a spectrum of organizational and team dynamics that typically show up as someone (e.g. a leader, manager) recognizing a need for action (e.g. a technical problem needs to be fixed), and subsequently believing someone exists (e.g. a team, an engineer) who should take this action, but is not actually taking it. Many individuals are present (either remotely or in-person), yet no one steps up to lead, address a problem, or voice concerns about ongoing issues. So what do you do when you’re stuck in an inertia trap? How do you even know when you’re in one? Over the next weeks, I’ll share more about this concept and how you can get unstuck. If you’re like… “No Lena I need these answers now!” Don’t fret because I dissect these questions in my article about inertia traps over on lenareinhard.com/articles 😊
