The Ministry of Racial Equality, in partnership with the Brazilian Presidency's Social Communication Secretariat, published the Digital Technologies and Racial Justice Library. The bilingual list is an edition of the digital library that I maintain in the Desvelar project, which I carried out thanks to my fellowship with Mozilla. More than 100 scientific articles, books, and reports from researchers worldwide are included. Excited to be on this Panel. Join Global Ties KC and KC AI Club on February 16th for a community panel featuring local tech professionals and visitors on the prestigious International Visitor Leadership Program from Zimbabwe. These tech professionals are in Kansas City to learn about digital equity, and emerging technologies like AI and its diverse uses. The moderated panel will be an opportunity to learn about utilization of technology within human rights in addition to learning about the work happening within the KC community and in Zimbabwe. When I was with Nokia and Motorola, I had a focus on connecting the unconnected and using technology for the good of everyone.  That is my focused with AI now. Thompson Coburn celebrates Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month! We are pleased to showcase the achievements and contributions of the members within our Asian and South Asian affinity group. Today's Q&A features Jayna Rust, a Washington D.C. partner in the government contracts group. Q: What does being part of the AAPI community mean to you? A: I grew up in rural America and am a cross-racial adoptee; that meant that for much of my life I was around very few other Asian-Americans. It wasn’t until college that I encountered larger numbers of Asian-Americans, and I honestly did not feel like I was part of the same “community” as them given the differences in our experiences. Over time, though, I began to spend more time with other Asian-Americans and began to feel accepted as part of the community by many (but not necessarily all). There are still times that I question whether I am actually part of the Asian-American community, but I have come to accept that the Asian-American community is not a monolith, and we all bring our individual experiences to it. It certainly helps to have other Asian-American adoptees to talk with, too. Q: Are there AAPI figures who have inspired you in your journey? A: Growing up in the 80s, there were not a lot of Asian-Americans in pop culture. So, when I did see one, it was always something to celebrate. I remember watching "The Goonies" a LOT when I was a kid, and I loved Ke Huy Quan as Data. His comeback in "Everything Everywhere All At Once" decades later has been even better to see. I followed a lot of the interviews with him, and it is clear he has always had a love of acting and is truly enjoying doing it again. Seeing people do work that they enjoy is always inspiring.
