✨ LGBTQ+ History Month ✨ In case you didn't know, February is LGBTQ+ History month. This month, we’ve been sharing tips on how you can be a better ally to the LGBTQ+ community, including how checking your own privilege helps you to be more supportive, calling out discrimination, and remembering that everyone is unique with individual lived experiences. 👉 Allyship Tip 4: Be receptive to feedback 👈 Being open, receptive and listening to feedback from other people is so important. They may want to highlight something you could have done differently, give some advice so you can be more supportive, or educate you on their lived experiences or those of the LGBTQ+ community.   Listening, not being defensive when being corrected, and allowing the other person to share openly with you will all go towards enabling you to be a better ally and better support to your LGBTQ+ peers! #lgbtqhistorymonth #inclusion #allyship #podtalent

Last week, we shared the first in our series of tips on how you can be a better ally to the LGBTQ+ community, and how checking your privilege helps you to be more supportive to all marginalised groups, not just LGBTQ+ people. 👉 Allyship Tip 2: Call it out! 👈 Don’t underestimate the power of calling out micro-aggressions, people using incorrect pronouns, deadnaming, inappropriate jokes, or general discriminatory comments. It shouldn’t be the responsibility of members of the LGBTQ+ community to have to always stand up for themselves and point out when people are wrong – it’s everyone’s responsibility! Whether there are LGBTQ+ people present or not, calling out this behaviour every time it happens will hopefully lead to a safer and more comfortable environment for your LGBTQ+ colleagues. #lgbtqhistorymonth #inclusion #allyship #podtalent

June is Pride Month, a time to celebrate the LGBTQ+ community and stand in solidarity with our LGBTQ+ colleagues, friends, and loved ones. As allies, we have the opportunity to use our voices and actions to create a more inclusive, affirming, and equitable world for all. Whether it's educating ourselves, amplifying LGBTQ+ perspectives, advocating for policy change, or simply being a compassionate listener, there are many ways we can be active allies. Speak up against discrimination, use inclusive language, and challenge heteronormative assumptions. Attend Pride events, donate to LGBTQ+ organizations, and promote visibility of LGBTQ+ role models. Most importantly, lead with empathy, respect diverse identities, and make space for LGBTQ+ individuals to live authentically. This goes for anyone within the LGBTQ+ community (or any marginalised community for that matter!). Everyone’s lived experiences and situations are completely different and each person should be treated as an individual. Don’t make assumptions about how that person wants to be referred to, how much information they feel comfortable sharing, or how much support they need, based on other LGBTQ+ people you have met. Everyone deserves to be treated with respect and as an individual, so take the time to understand each person. #lgbtqhistorymonth #inclusion #allyship #podtalent

Pride season is upon us! Here’s how to be a better ally during June, the month of Pride and beyond: 1. Be open to learn Support your LGBTQ+ friends by listening, to truly understand their experiences. 2. Confront your own prejudices and unconscious biases Challenge stereotypes and assumptions. Be mindful of the jokes you make. 3. Know that language matters Respect LGBTQ+ people’s names and pronouns. Use inclusive language and if appropriate, gender-neutral terms like ‘partner’. 4. Know that everybody messes up sometimes – If you make a mistake, breathe, apologise, and ask for guidance.
