LISD is building the next generation of educators. 🍎 ✨ For students interested in a career in teaching, LISD's Texas Association of Future Educators (TAFE) organization gives them the unique opportunity to gain real-world experience in the field while still in high school. We caught up with some former TAFE students, who are now LISD teachers themselves, to highlight the many ways the program has impacted their lives. And of course, what they’ve learned returning home to LISD. Read it here: bit.ly/49odY5Y

Hear from ANOUSKA SEHMI, DEPUTY HEADTEACHER DOLLIS PRIMARY SCHOOL, about the school's CFL programme. 🧭The Challenge: "Through the CFL Programme, we want to aim for all of our students to leave school with… (1) The knowledge, skills and education that prepares them for secondary school, adult life and the world of work. (2) A sense of responsibility as a future global citizen. (3) Ambition and an awareness of their limitless potential. (4) A thirst to be a motivated learner for life". 🧭The Programme: "In September 2021, we wanted to launch the programme through an inspiring Art and Writing project. We thought carefully about how each phase would create a piece of artwork based around a ‘Super North Star’ (SNS). Each phase used this model as a basis of creating their own Super North Star. Each class teacher kept a track of every child’s SNS, including children who had joined the school. The purpose of this was to track how their passions and dreams changed year on year". 🧭The Impact: "Since September 2021, we have taught the compass for Life curriculum to Years 4, 5 and 6. Every year, we aim to introduce the curriculum to another year group. In our recent OFSTED inspection, we were delighted that OFSTED praised the team for allowing the pupils to identify their goals for the future in such a meaningful way. Every year we look forward to seeing how the curriculum changes and grow, knowing that it is so meaningful for each one of our pupils". 🧭STUDENT AND TEACHER COURSES: Develop your staff and students alike with our faculty and student courses designed to benefit all. These unique training courses are designed for teachers and students alike. Whether you’re in a primary school, secondary school or post-16 learning, you’ll learn about the compass cardinals and how to apply these to your educational journey. Our course structure is tailored based on each school’s requirements. LEARN MORE HERE https://lnkd.in/eZa2VfkT Floyd Woodrow #school #schools #education #cpd

Maynooth University has a long history in both adult education and widening access to higher ed. We’re very lucky to have had invested staff like Michael Kenny from the Dept of Adult and Community Education who have, for many years, championed RPL as a means to allow individuals return to education. Have a listen to Michael as he outlines the transformative potential that RPL can have for those whom the formal education system did not work or did not suit. At Maynooth University, we value the uniqueness of your learning and all that you can bring to the table. We recognise the different learning journeys we have all taken and we want to hear from those who have learned in a real-life context. In short, we value you.

Founder & CEO @ TCES Group - NASEN SEND Leader of the Year 🇮🇪 Shortlisted for National Diversity Lifetime Achievement Award.
One of the questions families and professionals often ask at our TCES National Online School open days is whether we can support exam study. I'm pleased to confirm that we can; this coming year we have students taking #GCSEs in a range of subjects including English, Maths, Biology and Combined Science and #ALevels in English Literature and Psychology. Please take a look at the website for more information https://lnkd.in/et3GCKjK #onlineschool #specialschool #specialeducation #onlineeducation #neurodiversity #wenevergiveup
Really pleased to receive this excellent feedback from Local Authority colleagues after our last TCES National Online School open day. Ours is the only #onlinespecialschool to be independently quality assured by the Department for Education. We offer a full timetable in line with the National Curriculum and tailored to individual needs. The majority of online teaching is classroom-based, providing immediate opportunities to progress our children and young people into virtual peer groups. We utilise breakfast clubs, assemblies and after school clubs for the small number of pupils who need additional support to integrate into our online classes. For those pupils who need that additional support, we plan every step meticulously to move them from social isolation to independence in class at their own pace. Why not join us at our next virtual open day on Wednesday 8th May to find out more? I have spoken about our public educational system and the alternatives - unfortunately, many don't realize there are alternatives to educating their children. Yes, there are Public, Private, Religious, and Non-Profit school systems in place, but they all work off the same idea - one size fits all - when that isn't the case anymore. We all pay into public education - our tax dollars at work. Unfortunately, it no longer meets the needs of all our youth nor is it equal across the board. If you live in a more affluent area, your public school has more alternatives, additional bells and whistles, etc. If you are not in an affluent area, your public school may have digressed from lack of maintenance, funding, and many other factors. All children regardless of their nationalities, religions, sexual orientation, or any other label you want to assign to them, should not matter at all. Some children are creative. They explore, learn, and work hands-on, may be artistic, scientific, or technical. Some may be awesome in math and yet may suck at English. Unfortunately, our system has failed our kids. Do you realize ... * Every year, over 1.2 million students drop out of high school in the United States alone. That's a student every 26 seconds – or 7,000 a day. * About 25% of high school freshmen fail to graduate from high school on time. * The U.S., which had some of the highest graduation rates of any developed country, now ranks 22nd out of 27 developed countries. * A high school dropout will earn $200,000 less than a high school graduate over his lifetime. And almost a million dollars less than a college graduate. * In 2010, 38 states had higher graduation rates. Vermont had the highest rate, with 91.4% graduating. And Nevada had the lowest with 57.8% of students graduating. * Almost 2,000 high schools across the U.S. graduate less than 60% of their students. * These “dropout factories” account for over 50% of the students who leave school every year. * 1 in 6 students attend a dropout factory. 1 in 3 minority students (32%) attend a dropout factory, compared to 8% of white students. * In the U.S., high school dropouts commit about 75% of crimes. This information is taken from https://lnkd.in/grNSSXe2. People only talk about the issues ~ they don't do something about the issues. Well, #StandTogether is doing something about this issue. Many organizations are stepping up to help resolve issues that need to be addressed. That last bullet - "U.S. high school dropouts commit about 75% of crimes? Does that not get your attention? Our youth will someday be the fine leaders of our country. At the rate we are going, this country will not be one of the top countries on this earth.
