Some useful thoughts on "Nordic Minimalist Leadership" by Frank Martela (and since a pizzas 🍕 are mentioned, I feel it's my duty to share 😉). In short, help your people grow and encourage them to think like a CEO in making decisions; give them autonomy yet set any "non-negotiables" from the start. In doing so, avoid vetoing your teams' decisions and prepare for a difficult journey (at least in the beginning), since giving up control tends to be HARD.
Today on the front page of Harvard Business Review: My article on Nordic Minimalist Leadership, where I use Finnish leaders such as Matti Alahuhta, Ilkka Paananen, Tuomas Syrjänen, and Juhani Mykkänen as examples of minimalist leaders, who "let employees shine, put the good of the company above their own egos, and ultimately build stronger and more-innovative businesses." To practice minimalist leadership, I offer four guidelines: 1. Establish a clear, shared vision 2. Teach employees to think like a CEO 3. Replace control with trust — especially when employees make the “wrong” choice 4. Balance freedom with clear boundaries Link in comments:
