Candidates are eager to hear directly from "the source" about: 👉 the technical aspects of the role 👉 the manager itself to assess if there is a personality match 👉 about their expectations during the first months of onboarding about the challenges they face Don’t get me wrong—HR managers play a crucial role in the interview process and focus on cultural and team fit. However, the future hiring manager holds the detailed information candidates want to know. From experience, I would suggest that the first interview be conducted jointly by the hiring manager and HR. And when I think I have seen it all I get surprised again. . . In an interview process. . . From a candidate. . . Before every interview, I do a little preparation with my candidates. I aim to give them an idea of what the interview will be like insider information 😉 We also cover "the basics" like technical set-up and clothing style. And usually, everyone is like "Yeah, yeah, that's basic understanding. Do not worry!" If you don't ask, the answer is always no 😔 It's one of my favorite mantras lately, as I always see how effective it is. Right there. Spot on! The other day, when we arrived in Türkiye, we had to run like crazy to catch the bus to our destination. If we missed it, we would have to wait for 2 hours for the next bus. We ran, arrived, and saw the bus, thinking that we had made it. I wanted to buy the ticket, and the lady said, "It's fully booked. No free spots." As you know, I am not very patient 😅, so I saw the bus driver and approached him, asking if there was any chance we could take this bus since we would otherwise have to wait. He asked us to wait until everyone had taken their seats, and he would get back to us. Guess what? We got two seats and arrived before dawn 😍 What message do I want to convey? Don't be shy about asking. So many wonderful opportunities are waiting for you to discover.
