When I discovered two of my kids inherited Koolen-de Vries syndrome (KDVS) from me, it was a moment of reckoning. The same challenges that shaped my early experiences—learning hurdles and the quest to fit in—were now part of their story. It was tough, but it led to a profound realisation. They didn't just inherit KDVS from me. They also got my resilience, my deep-rooted compassion, and my perspective to see the world through a lens of understanding and acceptance. We've embraced the fact that our differences don't hold us back; they define our unique paths forward. I've shifted my focus to the strengths we share: courage, self-love, and facing life's challenges with determination. KDVS doesn't dictate our narrative. We're the authors of our own story, choosing to fill each page with moments of growth, acceptance, and mutual support. It's about showing, not just my kids, but the whole world, that what makes us unique is our source of power. The driving force behind our Caregiver Support Program at MVES is our fantastic staff. But we’re also fortunate in our partnerships and allies. Perfect example: a donation from Ageless Innovation, LLC provided our team with an excellent new tool. Ageless Innovation creates multigenerational updates on classic games that are tailored for a range of abilities. They also develop brand-new game concepts. All are designed with large print and with cognitive disabilities, like dementia/memory loss, in mind. We love the idea of caregivers and their loved ones coming together to share #gametime as a family! 🫶🎲 (Note: Our Caregiver Support Program was fortunate to receive a Respite Innovations Grant from the MA Executive Office of Health and Human Services. While we’ve mentioned it here in the past, we want to reiterate the impact of this grant — and to remind you that MVES has a range of caregiver supports available. Chaos! Last year when we ventured to start our own entity it was full of Chaos! Obviously in the beginning we had good deal of information on what we wanted to accomplish, and we were quite clear on our Vision. However, the market uncertainties and initial failures kept knocking us back to the wall! The most important thing what as a startup we did is - we stopped seeking too much of clarity of the situation and started giving our commitment to make things work! We learnt it in our way that "Chaos and Uncertainty are best friends of a Startup!" Which will make us thrive hard and give our best to excel in our goals! Who would have thought that - The idea which started on a causal coffee break! The plan which was jotted on a dinner table paper napkin! And the team who stood with me for a decade through the thick and the thin! All put together builds an entity and here we stand tall at the first milestone celebrating the First birthday of our baby – “Agnile Technologies”! Amazing! It was an action-packed year, nothing less than raising a baby where each moment was filled with surprises! every small stuff made us to feel the joy and every tiny hurdle made us to feel like climbing a mountain! But what we enjoyed the most is ‘The Journey Of Raising An Organisation!’ Now, at the end of year ONE! When I recap what we achieved? Our both verticals ‘Product House’ and ‘Service House’ are doing extremely great and It’s really satisfying as these accomplishments were done when the market is facing severe headwind with various Geopolitical & Technological uncertainties! We were positive in using the headwind and steering our organization to takeoff! Now it’s time to convert the startup into a scaleup! I was leading a community assessment process (evaluating readiness to start a Family Justice Center) in San Mateo County, California last week and I got asked a question. "What is the difference between being trauma-informed and being hope-centered?" It was a great question. Being trauma-informed helps you meet trauma survivors where they are and helps you be sensitive to what happened to them. Being hope-centered focuses on helping trauma survivors look forward and begin setting goals and identifying pathways to their goals. There is science behind both concepts. And we need professionals and organizations to be trained in both of these crucial approaches. JOIN US IN COLORADO in September and bring a friend or a team.
