👉Did you know, around 42% of individuals living with Type 1 Diabetes are at a higher risk of disordered eating? ❗️At present, the services are not there and actually conflict with one another, leaving individuals in these circumstances at an increased level of vulnerablility. 👉Factors include body image, stigma and attempts at managing glucose to a ‘perfect’ figure. A hyper focus on food to manage the disease is unhelpful for disordered eating as it reinforces an obsession with food control that is unavoidable. 👉The pressure on individuals, and in particular girls with diabetes is very intense with around 40% of girls and women living with type 1 diabetes having a form of disordered eating. ❗️There is so much unknown and so many misconceptions around this disease. 👉It is important that as SENDCo’s we continue to bang the drum on awareness of the impacts of medical status on our learners in and out of educational settings. 👉Diabetes has significant impacts on teaching and learning, from brain fog, concentration, mental health, anxiety, depression, mood changes and school avoidance. This includes our staff teams and facilitators too. #awarenessmatters #disorderedeating #diabetesawareness https://lnkd.in/euazZDtP https://jdrf.org.uk https://lnkd.in/edeSXsaf

Eating disorders are serious conditions that can affect a young person’s mood, health, relationships, school life, and other aspects of their well-being. There’s no single cause of eating problems. Lots of different factors, including genetics, home environment, and self-esteem may contribute to the development of disordered eating. In recent years, experts have looked into how the media affects the way young people see themselves, their bodies, and their relationship with food. Films, TV, the internet, and magazines have a powerful presence across the world, conveying ideas and ideals to young people that influence the way they think and behave. Research has found that the media may play a central role in increasing body dissatisfaction in teenagers and adolescents, making the development of eating disorders more likely. Our blog explores the link between media and eating disorders, body dissatisfaction, and ideals of beauty, and offers information on how young people can recover from eating problems and reclaim fulfilling futures. https://bit.ly/3NZTPuI #eatingdisorders #mentalhealth #selfesteem

We've created a healthcare system that treats symptoms, often without even considering cures. Kids are meant to spend time outdoors, getting sunshine & fresh air. Kids are meant to run around & move their bodies Kids are meant to eat healthy food, not ultra processed junk And if kids dont get these basic things.. Their health suffers. This is why things like childhood anxiety are skyrocketing. Not because kids need medication, but because they are getting the basic things they need to develop properly. So if a child is struggling with any sort of mental or behavioural health, try giving them the basics before considering giving them medication. #kidsmentalhealth #parenting #healthykids #healthyfamilies
