This is huge! French AI lab Kyutai just released Moshi, an open-source GPT-4o competitor that can listen, hear, and speak 😳 Moshi is the first real-time multimodal LLM that operates with basically no delay (end-to-end latency is 200ms). In fact, this Voice AI even interrupted the speaker a few times 😅 The best thing about this is that, unlike OpenAI's GPT-4o demoed in May, Moshi will be open source with code, model, and paper to be released soon. But here comes the crazy part. Kyutai built this end-to-end voice & text model in just 4 months with a tiny team of 8 people. French engineers are literally insane 🤯 Soon this Voice AI tech will be everywhere and change the way we do things forever. P.S. for more interesting stuff, check out 🔔linas.substack.com🔔, it's the only newsletter you need for all things when Finance meets Technology. For founders, builders, and leaders.

My main problem in voice to voice is I pause to try and think of the right word or phrasing which prompts the AI to give an answer to an incomplete question. When it can identify these moments and interject to help me along my thought pattern with word suggestions, I’ll be much more inclined to use it. My stream of consciousness so far isn’t conducive to real time communication between me and the ai because it doesn’t know when to wait for more or when to start answering… yet.

Those french are surely talented, but are not extraterrestrial. Gets me wondering why would the big tech spend billions in it when a group of 8 can do it in 4 months, is there no barriers to entry? Any view on that?

>> The application for the whispering LLM anyone?

Worst case is when it gets blocked in EU due to AI regulations. Similarly Apple’s intelligence won’t come out in EU in 2024, sad but true.

The French do have brilliant ideas, Linas Beliūnas. And this is one of those times they were able to execute and bring it to fruition. Glad to hear they love AI.

Linas it is huge and crazy too! Productivity will grow asymmetrically while innovation will increase astronomically! Makes sense? My math might be wrong but you get the idea 💡 😀

Is it bad that the first thing I thought of is of the movie, “Her”? 🙃 It was a great film! 🎥
