3 months ago, I took a dramatic decision I applied to intern at an organization, got interviewed by the Vice President and even got in! The noises around me were taunting "Dude! Did u even see what she does?! The last time I saw her, she was dancing in the middle of the street." “I once saw her trying to exchange a paper with something, I bet she got nothing” “Its a scam for sure, there is no way she is part of something that huge” But despite the taunts, I danced wholeheartedly. Jiving and laughing when the steps go wrong. Indulged myself in an experience that makes me smile. The outcome? I networked with some amazing people who I would have never met otherwise.  It made me feel suspicious at first. But then I realized two things: First, the jives are indeed a challenge that requires your legs and hands to cooperate with each other. (something I very politely realized midway jiving but still continued to do it all wrong) Second, new decisions do indeed make you vulnerable. You have no idea whether you chose the right thing or not. But it is this exploration and promise of new experiences that become the Marauder’s Map like in Harry Potter Remember: A new experience brings about a new you P.s I am part of the Head first and think later gang. What can two middle-aged white guys bring to the table when it comes to the diversity conversation? Surprisingly, quite a bit if they're willing to have some honest, soul-searching chats with their fellow middle-aged white counterparts. I sat down with Tony Fulgham on the newest podcast episode of Crossing the Axis to reflect on the year-long BIPOC internship program at his film studio, All is Well. Let me tell you, it was a raw, candid, and an eye-opening conversation. Tony opened up about his motivations behind starting the program, the ups, the downs, and everything in between. But perhaps the biggest lesson I took away from our chat was the importance of staying in your lane. Tony shared how he initially tried to tackle everything under the sun, only to realize that his true expertise lay in certain areas – like writing and creative development – and that's where he could make the most impact. For all you company owners out there considering ways to address racial access and inequality within your business, do yourself a favor and give our conversation a listen. The intern who fetches your coffee might be your company’s secret weapon. Louis Monoyudis, CMO at Bokksu, knows that game-changing insights can come from anyone on the team, from the new graduate to the veteran C-suiter. Meet the team 👇🏻 Henry's journey with Corpore began in the summer of 2018, stepping into the public relations field as an intern. Coming from a background in political science and economics, he found himself in unfamiliar territory. Yet, by 2019, after a couple more internships and a steep learning curve, he became a full-time member of the Corpore family. For him, it's been a path filled with growth 📈 and unexpected opportunities. Working in PR, especially on public affairs projects, has opened his eyes to the intricacies of communicating in a complex world. Every client and project brings its own set of challenges, from navigating the nuances of pharmaceuticals to the fast-paced world of consumer electronics, fintech, IPOs, and bond issues. His foray into digital strategies, particularly in crafting compelling social media narratives, has allowed him to blend creativity with strategic communication on many occasions. Outside the office, Henry's life is a blend of personal passions and hobbies. From rigorous workouts at the gym and delving into mostly non-fiction books 📚 to exploring obscure knowledge online and DJing at local speakeasies and private events, these activities provide a creative outlet and balance to his professional life. One memorable day encapsulates the diversity of Henry's role: transitioning from a critical meeting on a public affairs project to rushing through the rain 🌧️ to deliver cat litter to a local celebrity’s home for a social media campaign. It's these moments, filled with unpredictability and a hint of surrealism, that highlight the dynamic nature of PR. Reflecting on his time at Corpore, it's the continuous learning and the breadth of experiences, from public affairs to digital storytelling, that Henry values. "After 15 years in the media industry, I was ready for a change but wanted to move to an organization that impacts the community as much as a media company does. I felt the Economic Alliance fit that requirement, but, wow, did I underestimate that impact initially." 🌟 What has been the most rewarding part about being a part of this team? "The passion with which every member of our team does their jobs is so amazing. AKA, what excites you about the upcoming year? "My anniversary day starts with onboarding a summer intern. That certainly excites me as it’s so gratifying to expose young talent to all we do, and all this community has to offer. My celebration won’t be isolated to this one day as I’m blessed with routine happy hours and dinners with current and former coworkers. One of the best things about my job is that each year differs from the other. We are always evolving, creating new initiatives, and working together to grow the community. I love that I’m involved with all of it -- buy local initiatives, public policy advocacy, talent attraction campaigns, leadership development programs and so much more.
