Reflecting on My First Year Post-Graduation 🪩✨ It's hard to believe it's already been a year since I walked across that stage and received my diploma. As I look back on the past 12 months, it's been quite the journey of ups and downs, challenges, and growth. Straight out of college, I landed a position that, unfortunately, wasn't the right fit for me. Recognizing this early on, I made the tough decision to start searching for a new opportunity while still giving my all in my current role. It wasn't easy – countless applications, numerous rejections, and more than a few moments of doubt and frustration. But through perseverance and resilience, I'm proud to say that I've found my footing. The process was grueling, with its fair share of tears and mental hurdles, but it was all worth it. Today, I'm doing something I'm passionate about, and I'm getting paid to do it – a dream come true. Reflecting on my journey, I realize just how much I've grown both personally and professionally in these last few months. It's been a rollercoaster ride, but I wouldn't trade it for anything. I'm incredibly grateful and fortunate to have been given not just one, but two opportunities this year to pursue what I love. For anyone out there facing job uncertainty or just starting their professional journey, I want you to know that it's tough – there's no denying that. But keep pushing forward, stay patient, and trust that everything will eventually fall into place. It's graduation season. If you know a graduating senior--whether high school or college--they are going to hear a lot about what to do and how to live their best lives in the next few weeks. At graduation ceremonies or parties, speakers, friends, cards, and books will tell them what they should do to be successful and have the best possible life. There's a lot of great advice out there. But after all my years of experience working with some of the greatest companies in the world, doing some of the coolest things ever, trying to make a difference in the lives of as many people as possible, I can sum up everything I've learned in two simple words: BE KIND. The world is filled with successful people. Entrepreneurs and storytellers. The world has plenty of smart people, creative people, bold people, courageous people. There are lots of hard-working, brilliant, and inspiring people. So, think of others first. Be gentle, thoughtful. Be considerate and compassionate and remember that you're not alone in the world, but surrounded by people who are trying to discover their place in life, too. Who’s on your New Years Honours list? I must admit I never pay too much attention to this, year on year, but this time around (maybe due to latest contention around who’s on the list) something resonated with me. I decided to draft my own list New Years Honours list of people that I would like to honour (or acknowledge) in some way as they have supported me in a variety of different ways during the past year. I also learned this year that the WHO can be as important to what we achieve as the WHAT, the WHY and the HOW. And boy can this make a huge difference in terms of the journey and the ease and enjoyment of getting there. So, I started listing people down and before I knew it, I was almost up to 20. With little additional effort I made it to 23, which seemed apt for 2023 😀 I will be making contact with each of them this week, individually or collectively as appropriate, to let them know how special they are to me. I’m not sure we take the time to do this often enough – or maybe it’s just me - and it’s one of my intentions to do this even more in 2024.
