Power Down or Double Down? ☀️ As the summer vacation period rolls in, many of us are faced with a familiar decision: is it time to power down and enjoy a well-deserved break, or should we double down and make the most of these sunny days to push projects forward? In our business field, I usually hear the phrase called “I can’t do it right now cause I’m busy”….. However I’ve seldom heard the reason why they are busy… In short, the phrase “I’m busy” is the big word, big issue. Means it’s one of the phrases for “excuse”… Actually in many cases, it is based on their feelings and there’s no actual reason why they are busy. How did you treat your homework of summer vacation when you were in childhood? Did you try to start it from the beginning of your summer vacation? Or did you finished on the last day of your summer vacation? If you have mature schedule to implement everything, it will be going on schedule. And you will not say “I’m busy”. In the case for insisting “I’m busy”, it’s almost the same case as finishing the homework on the last day of the summer vacation…. The important issue is planning mature schedule as first. If you have deadlines after 10 days and if you think we still have 10 days, unfortunately you’re the person who finish your homework on the last day of the summer vacation.. means you’re always being late and constantly reft behind everything and you can’t escape from the “busy”. If we can have time management as a mature plan, we can escape from the curse of “busy”. Whether you feel you’re busy or not, it depends on you!

☀️Summer Vacation Season☀️ We are right in the middle of the summer vacation season, and I have to admit, it is quite a challenge. For us, the season starts in June and ends approx at the middle of September. Just when everyone has had a few weeks off, the next holiday period kicks off in October. What makes this time of year so challenging: 1. Understaffing: less staff but still a full operational planning. 2. Handover: extra tasks to keep the work going. 3. Delays: projects slow down due to the absence of key team members. 4. Email inbox overload: exploded inbox when you return. However, I do think that it is incredibly important that vacation days are taken, so everyone can recharge and come back motivated. This year, though, it feels different for me. While my colleagues are enjoying the summer vacation season, I am going full speed ahead (besides sales) on the re-branding of H&S Cleaning & Filling. Despite the hectic period, I am also have two weeks holiday in the beginning of september to recharge myself and come back full of energy. I have a challenging deadline, and I am determined to meet this🔥 There are so many things to do and to arrange but I believe in OUR company, OUR strategy and OUR future plans. I know that we are doing the right things and I am proud to be part in this journey. It’s time for inbox shuffle   Coming back in the rain from my last IRL meeting before summer vacation, I made the reflection once again – it’s the time of the year when the inbox shuffle occurs!  I get it, most of do, we want to deliver as many tasks as possible before we go on vacation and end with a “clean” desk, but how effective is it? I make the same reflection every year. Is there another way? Because unless we are really handing over to somebody working, all we accomplish is a lot of stress and moving the full inbox around. The workload is the same and in most line of work, we are rarely ever “done”. So, this year, I will do something different. Send away deliverables that will be worked on while I’m away and ensure important bookings are in autumn calendars. The rest, prepare but allow for a few days when back to revisit them before delivery. New and good ideas might have come while resting and if not, the receiving party will get it when ready and rested. Maybe in this way we will increase effectiveness and well-being for all? How to prepare for a stress-free vacation (not rocket science, but perhaps you find it inspirational) 𝟭) 𝗣𝗟𝗔𝗡 & 𝗔𝗟𝗜𝗚𝗡 𝗘𝗫𝗣𝗘𝗖𝗧𝗔𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡𝗦🔀 Plan the vacation well in advance. Mention it when planning timelines and deliverables to manage expectations. 𝟮) 𝗕𝗢𝗢𝗞 𝗬𝗢𝗨𝗥𝗦𝗘𝗟𝗙 📆 The week before vacation, set aside time for scheduling LinkedIn posts, answering emails, and cleaning up the inbox. Review the post-vacation calendar and create a to-do list. Avoid booking meetings in the last hours before vacation. 𝟯) 𝗔𝗖𝗧𝗜𝗩𝗔𝗧𝗘 𝗔𝗨𝗧𝗢𝗥𝗘𝗣𝗟𝗬 📧 Activate the autoreply function in Outlook to explain how and when to get in contact. 𝟰) 𝗗𝗢𝗡'𝗧 𝗕𝗘 𝗢𝗡𝗟𝗜𝗡𝗘 🩴 Limit online presence by turning off email and LinkedIn notifications. 𝟱) 𝗦𝗢𝗙𝗧 𝗦𝗧𝗔𝗥𝗧🪶 Plan for a soft start without meetings on the first day back. Begin with a cup of tea, review the pre-vacation to-do list, check emails, and handle them according to Outlook rules. Enjoy being back. What is your best tip for taking time off and returning?

When you're excited about going on a fun vacation and you want to enjoy it without thinking about work, you might feel motivated to finish your tasks. But this can make you very tired because you pressure yourself to get it done and keep working hard. Sometimes, you think this pressure has been good because it's help you accomplish things in your life. But the problem is, even when you finish everything before vacation, there's always more work waiting for you. And, we can continue to rack up accomplishments without realizing ever really enjoying other parts of our lives. So, instead of working too much before your vacation, one skill to build is to learn how not to think about work during your break independent of how much you get done beforehand. This way, you can truly relax and spend time with your family and friends no matter what's happening at work.
